Aquinas Opens Season with Strong Win
Aquinas launched their season with a commanding 17-3 victory over Haverling in Monday's matchup. Noah Olbrich and Jake Guggino led the charge for Aquinas, each tallying six goals, while Guggino added three assists and Olbrich contributed two. Caleb Wood scored three goals, and Gio Valerie added two to round out the team’s scorers. Aquinas’ goalie Jake Gibson recorded three saves and three goals allowed, achieving a 50% save rate over thirty-six minutes, with Logan Schimmel stepping in for the final quarter and making two saves for a 100% rate.
Haverling found the net three times, with Lawrence Duncan scoring twice and Noah Schneider contributing a goal and an assist. Despite some early success in the first quarter, Haverling was unable to score after halftime as Aquinas’ defense tightened. The game saw Aquinas steadily increase their lead, scoring five goals in the third quarter and capping their performance with two in the fourth.
Both teams now look ahead to their next games: Aquinas will host Corning on Tuesday, April 8, while Haverling will play Bloomfield-Honeoye on Tuesday, April 1.
