Players of the Week - Group Four

Section V Boys Lacrosse Coordinator Mike Simon in conjunction with the Canandaigua National Bank are, once again, sponsoring recognition of noteworthy performances throughout the season.

In our fourth group we have a senior and a junior who have had noteworthy performances in the last few weeks.

Offensive Player of the Week

Sean OlvanyMike Valent - Rush-Henrietta Faceoff Midfielder

Mike Valent leads the Royal Comets in goals and points, but perhaps his most important skill is delivering the ball from the faceoff top the offensive end of the field. There are so many great faceoff specialists this year and Mike had a big last week for R-H. In the one goal win against Hilton, he scored 3g-1a and won 17 draws and in the Gates Chili game won all fifteen. The Hobart commit reached 100 faceoff wins in the season last week and has a current average of 77%.

Rush-Henrietta Head Coach Tom MacMillan says: "Mikey has put in a lot of time and practice into becoming one of the best in section V at his position. He is by far one of the hardest working athletes that I have ever coached and an even better person."

Defensive Player of the Week

Leo CohrsLeo Cohrs - Geneva Defenseman

This week we celebrate Leo Cohrs, a one-on-one defenseman who always draws the best opponent offensive player. Last week Leo was able to effectively shut down the top attackman on both Marcus Whitman and Skaneateles. He was also quick in transition and was able to quickly get the ball off the ground and moving, which led to several transition goals at the other end.

Geneva Head Coach Jeff Dunham says, "He is the heart and soul of our defense, consistently being the voice on the field. Leo’s success on the field is no fluke. Leo dedicated himself to strength and conditioning and training after last season and it has paid off on the field. He is able to physically impose his will on opponents and has the speed to track them effectively. His tenacity sets the tone for us defensively. "
