Friday - Long Island-16 Over ADK-6
John Conneely opened the scoring on the final game of Friday’s six game series just 0:53 into the game. ADK was quick to retaliate when Matthew Crimmins (assisted by John Olsen) found the back of the net 0:33 later.
Tom Palasek, who led all scorers with 5 goals, reasserted the Long Island lead with 5:18 remaining, but again less then one minute later ADK had scored to tie the game one more time. This time Chris Adams scored with an assist from from Jordan Sherman. Long Island scored with 0:22 remaining in the quarter when Daniel Savage found the back of the net (assisted by Matthew Gibson).
On the next face-off Long Island’s Zach Pall, who finished at 8/22, picked up his own ground ball and took it in for the goal with 0:13 left on the first quarter clock. Long Island led 4-2 after the first quarter. With only 0:06 left, a penalty was assessed to Long Island and ADK retained possession going into the second quarter.
Adirondack capitalized on the penalty and scored only 0:14 into the quarter to take the game back to within one. That was as close as they got, however, as Long Island scored the next seven straight goals spanning two quarters. Brian Smalley, Palasek, Matthew Cannone, and Francis McDonough (twice) all score before the end of the half to bring Long Island a 9-3 halftime lead. During the second half Long Island only hit the cage six times and scored on five of them.
Long Island continued scoring, scoring the first two goals of the third quarter with Conneely (from Gibson) and Palasek (unassisted). ADK, never stopped working and scored two goals in the third quarter matching Long Island's two. Seth Berggren (from Adams) and Sam Bradman (from Ryan Quinn) scored goals at 0:54 and 0:27 of the third for ADK.
Long Island brought back the high-powered offense in the fourth outscoring ADK 5-1. Connor English scored two goals, as did Palasek. The final Long Island goal was scored by Sean Rogers (assisted by Conneely). Bradman added the lone ADK goal of the quarter with the assist from Rory Nunamacher.
ADK’s Quinn played well at the face-off, winning 11/18. In the net, both ADK’s goalies had difficulties keeping up with the Long Island offense. O’Brien faced 14 shots, saving 5 (35%) and Sweeney saw 11 shots, saving 4 (36%). Both Carroll and Rastivo split time for Long Island as well and both saw 7 shots and made 4 saves (57%).
Long Island also continued their high clearing percentage as well, breaking the 90% mark for the third game straight. Additionally they scored on 3/3 extra-man opportunities.
Long Island demonstrated why they are a perennial winner and how even without leading scorer, Jeff Cohen missing from action they still have the talent to find the back of the net.
