Wayne Overtime Win vs Gananda

 SPORTSFIVE REPORT:  

Wayne remained undefeated with an overtime win against Gananda, 15-14. The Blue Panthers trailed by three with less than two minutes on the clock before forcing overtime with 0:02 remaining. The Screaming Eagles, who led from the third quarter on, scored the gaming winning goal with 2:32 remaining in the first overtime period. Cooper Pieroni scored his sixth goal of the game for Wayne.

The first 14 minutes of the game were all Gananda. The Blue Panthers scored six out of seven and led 6-1 with 10:09 remaining in the second quarter. The first goal of the game was scored by Kyle Lombardozzi (one of his 3g-1a). Lombardozzi was called on again later to send the game to overtime with the final Blue Panther goal of the game. After Gananda led early in the second, they did not score again until the beginning of the third. Wayne added seven goals before halftime to take an 8-6 lead. Pieroni added two with Jon Ecker (2g), Jack Camp, Thomas Knapp and Kurtis Lash scoring for the Screaming Eagles.

Gananda fought back in the third with the first three goals to re-take the one goal lead. Cruz Mayberry, Lombardozzi and Remmy Glod scored the Blue Panthers. Glod was demonstrative at the face-off draw. He finished at 24/33 and obtained the 500th face-off win of his Varsity career. Wayne didn't trail for long and scored three more goals to end the third quarter and maintain their two goal lead (12-10 after three quarters).

Ecker and Camp added goals for Wayne and Patrick Shanley scored the Blue Panthers to bring the score to 14-11 with less than two minutes remaining. Midfielder Ben Donnan scored with 1:23 remaining to bring the score to within two. Just less than one minute later Glod scored his 2nd goal of the night to bring the game within one. With 0:09 remaining, Gananda called a timeout and gave the ball to Lombardozzi. He drove directly at the cage and put the ball into the back of the net with 0:02 left to force overtime.

Glod came out of overtime and won the opening draw; however, the Blue Panthers could not capitalize and the Screaming Eagles took the ball. Pieroni scored the game winning goal with Camp assisting. In the cage for Wayne, Jared Laird recorded 13 saves. Gananda's Jason Good finished with 5 saves. Next up for Gananda is Geneva next Tuesday. The Screaming Eagles will face Bloomfield-Honeoye on Saturday.
