Yakowitz Leads Gates Chili to First Win
BATAVIA-NOTRE DAME-5 at GATES CHILI-11 - Gates Chili picked up its first win of the season Saturday morning, beating Batavia-Notre Dame 11-5 in a non-league game to move to 1-6. Junior Joshua Yakowitz had a standout day offensively, and senior Cody Kosel scored his first career varsity goal in the win.
Yakowitz led Gates Chili with six goals and an assist, while sophomore Zach Fennell added two goals and five assists. Noah Truax contributed two goals and two assists, and Kosel rounded out the scoring with his milestone goal. In goal, senior Callaway Phommachanh made eight saves on 13 shots (62%) over 48 minutes.
For Batavia-Notre Dame, junior Nolan Radley scored two goals, and Aiden Kopper and Cullam Finn each added one goal and one assist. Finn also recorded his first career varsity assist. Cyrus D'Alba chipped in a goal and Trey Rodriguez added two assists. In goal, senior Branden Flanagan made 11 saves on 22 shots (50%) over 48 minutes. The Irish fall to 2-4.
Gates Chili hosts Honeoye Falls-Lima on Wednesday evening. Batavia-Notre Dame travels to Brockport on Monday evening.
