Thomas Hands Hamburg Second Loss of the Season
Thomas scored four of the last five goals to pull ahead in their 10-8 win over Hamburg. The game was only outside of a one goal game twice. Throughout the contest, the score was tied each time up to 7-7 with both teams leading at different points in the game. After Thomas scored their 8-7 lead, the game never tied again and Thomas held out the win. Their 10th goal was scored with 0:12 remaining. The Bulldogs fall to 6-2 with the loss, with both losses coming from Section Five teams (Canandiagua on 4/6)
Thomas scored the opener with Reed Currie scoring unassisted a little over 2 minutes into the game. Hamburg responded with back to back goals to take their first lead. Devin Collins scored both goals for the Bulldogs. The first quarter ended with Hamburg leading 2-1. Thomas opened the second quarter with a goal from David Petz (assist to Ryan Prine). Two minutes later and Brock Schneider scored the first of his team leading 3g-1a for the Bulldogs. Thomas kept up the pressure and added back to back goals by Joe Russo to pull ahead and retake the lead. The scoring continued in the final three minutes with three more goals (2 for Hamburg, 1 for Thomas) to put the score at 5-5 going into halftime.
In the third, Hamburg opened the scoring with Schneider scoring unassisted. The teams alternated goals for the entire third with Thomas tying the game with 2:01 left with another goal from Russo. The score was 7-7 going into the fourth quarter. The final go ahead goal by Thomas was scored with Russo with 10:36 left in the fourth. The Titans held the one goal lead for eight minutes before they went up by two with 2:46 remaining. It took less than a minute for the Bulldogs to pull back within one, but they could not come any closer. Ethan Ruller finished with 12 saves for Thomas.
