Jeff Milano-Johnson Memorial JV Lacrosse Tournament Tomorrow
At the Jeff Milano-Johnson Memorial JV Lacrosse Tournament tomorrow, June 6th, at Total Sports Experience volunteers will be collecting used lacrosse equipment for the ROCE6 program. They are especially in need of lacrosse sticks and girls' goggles. The ROCE6 program is an academic and sports summer camp for youth entering grades 2 through 8th living within the Rochester city limits.
ROC E6, Inc. is a not-for-profit community based organization established to improve the current and future lives of inner city youth. It was the brainchild of Arkee Allen, a Rochester City School district graduate, who attended Columbia College and is currently teaching at East High School. ROCE6 sponsors a summer academic and sports camp which runs for six weeks.
The 2009 program will run from July 6-August 14, 2009 for 120 students, ages 8-13, living within the Rochester city limits. Camp runs Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. The morning is devoted to math, English language arts, and ethics and civility--the afternoon to sports instruction, and the day ends with a guest speakers from the local community.
The Jeffrey Milano-Johnson Memorial Fund is pleased to again support this important program. ROCE6 needs financial support, volunteers for tutoring in the morning, assistant coaching in the afternoon and equipment and supplies for lacrosse and wrestling. High school and college kids are encouraged to volunteer. The scheduling is flexible; the need greater than can be imagined. To learn more about ROCE6, to donate or to volunteer visit www.roce6.com.
