Sectional Rankings - Week 6
|
Although there were a number of exciting games this week, none of them were games where a lower ranked team defeated a higher competitor. So in each class we are making no changes.
CLASS A
In Class A last week, Penfield defeated Fairport, Schroeder defeated Pittsford, Fairport defeated Pittsford, and Irondequoit defeated Schroeder. While Canandaigua and Penfield are both undefeated, Canandaigua's win against Orchard Park was an important win as they will most probably be the Section Six Champion. Combined with their earlier win against Corning East keeps them in the top spot at this point.
CA has, however, a much more difficult schedule remaining in their quest for an undefeated season. While they must still beat Geneva, Hamburg and Penn Yan, Penfield is looking pretty good while facing Schroeder, Fairport, Pittsford and Irondequoit. Both teams need to maintain their focus if they want to remain undefeated.
CLASS B
In Class B, Aquinas and Geneva both defeated Victor last week. Geneva has a big game this week when they play Canandaigua. They lost in the first game 12-7 but this is a new chance. Aquinas will be focusing on the GRALL Championship this week.
CLASS C
The rankings in Class C also remains the same. Livonia defeated Haverling and Waterloo defeated Pal-Mac. Livonia will be focusing on the GRALL tournament this week but first must win another game against McQuaid Jesuit on Tuesday.
GAMES THIS WEEK
There are games every day this week including 17 on Thursday. With 48 games scheduled there will be lots of opportunity for some upsets at any level.
As we approach the end of the season, it looks as though many of the rankings are falling into place. This week will see a number of matches that will important to watch. On Tuesday, Fairport/Thomas; On Thursday, Penfield/Schroeder; On Saturday, Penfield/Fairport.
Additionally, although they have little effect on rankings, Canandaigua plays Geneva on Thursday and Hamburg on Saturday in what will definitely be great lacrosse. Thursday is the GRALL Tournament. Although, the games have yet to be finalized, they will surely be great match-ups as each of this years games have been close.
Since we only have two weeks left in the regular season, it is obvious that many are looking ahead to Sectional seeding. As is noted in this weeks "Kyle's Byline", it is still too early to determine most of the seeds. As we get closer to the end of the season it will become easier, but there are always "bubble" teams until the last games of the year.
