Players of the Week - April 8, 2014
This week`s Player of the Week awards are Pittsford senior defenseman Nick Panara and Churchville Chili senior attackman Aaron Buck. The players were selected from nominations submitted last week.
Defensive Player of the Week
Nick Panara
The Pittsford senior defenseman already has a string of awards and accolade, including earlier this season, being named to the US Lacrosse preseason watchlist. He will be attending Fairfield next year.
A strong player within what made be the strongest defensive unit in the Section, Panara covered the best Duxbury midfielder in the Panther`s win last week. He held him scoreless and knocked the stick out of his hand, not once, but twice.
According to one of his nominations, "He is the nucleus of a defense that has only given up a few goals so far. He is always going at 110% and is an incredible team leader."
Offensive Player of the Week
Aaron Buck
The Churchville-Chili senior attackman had 2g-2a in his season opener. The Saints beat Canandaigua 7-6 in overtime and his two goals were key in the win. His second goal sent the game into overtime, where he assisted on the winning goal by Joey Johnson.
Buck is prepared to attend and play for Alfred State after graduation this spring.
Says Head Coach Donny Moss, "He never misses a practice or a workout and is usually the first guy at the door. He has placed an emphasis in his workouts and work ethic and it has allowed him to achieve success."
The Connors and Ferris law firm is sponsoring recognition for a Varsity level Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week this year.
Each week a small committee of SportsFive.NET staff members and Section Five Lacrosse Committee members will create and review review nominations from coaches, players and fans and pick one offensive and one defensive player who have excelled in a game or games during the season.
The award winners will receive a commemorative shirt and will featured on the SportsFive.NET web site.
