Last year we acknowledged that the "world" didn' t revolve around Class A any more, and in the end, Irondequoit gave Section Five anexciting finish as they ran from the fifth seed and finished in the the State Final Four.

Geneva ended their league season second in Finger Lakes Division I with a 3-3 record (14-4 overall). Seeded first in the Class B tournament, the Panthers defeated Aquinas 14-13 to become the Section Five Class B Champions. The Panthers lost to Hamburg (Section 6) in the first round of the state tournament 13-9.

With a major change in the NYS Class alignments, Canandaigua and Irondequoit move to Class B, making that class much more challenging, while maintaining that exciting rivalry. Geneva and Aquinas, who have, in the past, elected to move up from Class C, now like the idea of taking on Penn Yan instead of CA and IQ.

The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle has announced their second AGR Lacrosse team, with Player of the Year honors going to Canandaigua goalie Scott Bement. Canandaigua Head Coach, Ed Mulheron was named AGR Coach of the Year.

Two out of three Section Five teams won Western Regional Championships today. Canandaigua beat Orchard Park 11-5 in the first game. Hamburg beat Geneva 13-9 in the second game and Penn Yan was the 18-2 winner over Salamanca. Many games throughout the state were postponed until Wednesday due to weather issues.

The All Star list is out recognizing the Finger Lakes League players for the 2008 season. Senior defensemen Scott Bement (Canandaigua) and Dana Wilber (Penn Yan) were selected as USLAcrosse All Americans

Although wins by both Penn Yan and Canandaigua were surprising mismatches, a four goal streak with just over a minute gave Geneva a 14-13 win in the Class B Championships at St. John Fisher College on Friday.

Fans who chose to go to Aquinas tonight to see the Class A semi finals were treated to two of the best games of the season. Canandaigua held on to their undefeated season by one goal as the defeated a fired up Thomas team.

In an exciting overtime win, Greece Ath/Ody (Thunder) beat Haverling 8-7. Meanwhile, Geneva beat visiting Timon/St. Jude (Baffalo) 9-3.

On the last Tuesday of the regular season there were 13 winners including Churchville, Brockport, Thomas, Irondequoit, Gates Chili, Hilton, Penfield, Schroeder, Mynderse, Geneva, Penn Yan, Haverling and Batavia.

McQuaid Jesuit won the GRALL Championship tonight in a close win over Aquinas and Canandaigua and Penfield both remained undefeated after action today.

Thomas was an 8-7 winner over Fairport, Geneva was a 9-8 winner over HFL and McQuaid Jesuit was an 9-8 overtime winner over Livonia. Other winners on Tuesday include Victor, Churchville-Chili, Irondequoit, Canandaigua, Aquinas, Pal-Mac, Bloomfield-Honeoye and Hamilton (over Mynderse).

Both Penfield and Canandaigua remain undefeated with games that were easily won today. Canandaigua beat Mynderse 21-4 and Penfield beat Rush-Henrietta 20-7. Other winners included Brockport, HFL, Churchville, Thomas, Canandaigua and Penn Yan.

A full day of lacrosse games took place in Pittsford today, capped off with a last minute win by the Panthers over Gates Chili 11-10. Hilton was a 15-3 winner over Spencerport, Livonia won their game (16-11) over Midlakes, and Pal-Mac was the 12-11 winner over Batavia. Out of area games included JD's win over Geneva (18-7) and Sweet Home over Victor (14-6).

Schroeder had a big win today as they defeated Fairport 12-4. Penfield remained undefeated with an 11-7 win over Irondequoit. In other match ups it was Brockport over Arc/Oly, Thomas over CC, Gates over Ath/Ody, CA over Midlakes and Geneva over Mynderse. Pittsford had a 12-8 win over R-H, Penn Yan beat Pal-Mac, Victor was (10-7) over Waterloo and McQuaid Jesuit was a winner over BH. HFL beat Eastridge 5-4 and Aquinas beat Haverling 14-6.

McQuaid Jesuit was able to start the game with Corning West, but it was stopped due to lightning.

Nearly everyone was playing on Tuesday as fourteen games were played by Section Five teams. Batavia won their first ever Varsity games (15-10 over the Lightning), Brockport beat C-C (9-5) and Canandaigua beat Penn Yan in a close 5-4 game. McQuaid Jesuit, and Aquinas were GRALL winners and Pittsford, Gates Chili, Fairport, Penfield, R-H and Geneva had easy wins. Newark beat Pal-Mac 11-8, Mynderse took BH (11-9) and Waterloo was the 9-8 winner over Midlakes.

Canandaigua beat Fairport, Irondequoit beat Thomas and Penn Yan beat Schroeder in overtime in big match ups today. Pittsford was a overtime 7-6 winner over Hilton, Geneva beat McQuaid Jesuit 13-8, Livonia was a 12-10 winner over Waterloo and Spencerport beat Brighton 7-6.

There was lots of action on Thursday with many league games. Winners today included Irondequoit, Churchville-Chili, Fairport, Penfield, Haverling, Victor, Canandaigua, Geneva, Penn Yan Athena/Odyssey, Thomas, and McQuaid Jesuit, who won in Buffalo against St. Francis. Close games included Eastridge over Brighton (6-5) and Penfield over Schroeder.

On a sunny afternoon with temperatures in the low 60s, eleven games were were placed in Section Five. The winners included Gates Chili, Penn Yan, Irondequoit, Livonia, and Mynderse. Schroeder took C-C (8-6), Fairport was the winner over Thomas (12-8), CA beat Geneva (12-7), Midlakes beat Pal-Mac by one and McQuaid Jesuit defeated Aquinas 7-6 in overtime.

Last year at this time we stated that there was some serious talent among the Class A teams.

The All Star list is out recognizing the Finger Lakes players for the 2007 season. Defenseman Michael Manley and Goalie RJ Wickham from Penn Yan were selected as USLAcrosse All Americans. Senior midfielder,Charlie Sauter from Canandaigua was selected by the Finger Lakes coaches as the 2006 USLacrosse Academic All American.

Geneva, McQuaid Jesuit and Eastridge, each the high seeds will advance to the Class B semi finals at Waterloo next Tuesday (May 29th). The Victor Brighton game will be decided on Friday (May 25th).

In the last week of the regular season, the MC league is nearly finished and there was lots of action today. Winners included Fairport, Schroeder, Spencerport, Eastridge, Irondequoit, Churchville, Hilton, Brockport, Newark, Waterloo, Livonia, Geneva and Canandaigua.

Wednesday ’s contests were all Finger Lakes cross-over games and ones that went to running time as Penn Yan, Canandaigua, Victor and Geneva were all victorious.

Fairport defeated the last of the undefeated teams this afternoon when the beat visiting Irondequoit, 8-7 in overtime. Rush-Henrietta had a 10-9 win over Penfield, Pittsford played a great game against Schroeder but lost 7-9. The Thunder won in the 2nd OT. A total of 13 games were scheduled on Thursday.

In a preview of a possible final four Class A game, Canandaigua was a winner over Webster Schroeder 9-7 at McAvoy. Thomas was a 15-7 winner over Brighton and Irondequoit took a 12-6 win over HFL.

Every game was expected to be close today, and although day-time games cut into the spectator numbers, many fans were not disappointed as the Schroeder/Penn Yan, Canandaigua/Fairport and McQuaid Jesuit/Brighton games were won by single goal margins.

Both Schroeder and Thomas were winners in games played today. The Warriors beat Amherst (Section 6) 10-4 and the Titans beat Fairport 13-12 in a game full of momentum swings. Other winners included Livonia, McQuaid Jesuit, Brighton, Churchville-Chili, Geneva and Canandaigua.

Geneva defeated Henninger (Section 3) tonight with a score of 11-5. The Panthers out shot the Black Knights 37 to 21.

After the regular season, there are several championship opportunities for teams that qualify. First up are the Section Five Tournaments for three classes (A-B-C).

The final four teams met in the semi final rounds at three venues tonight.

Penfield, Schroeder and Fairport have now proved the idea that parity is alive and well in the Monroe County Class A teams. In other close games today, Brockport beat Athena/Odyssey by one goal as did Aquinas in their game with McQuaid Jesuit.
