Brighton Takes Fairport in OT

NOTES:  In the closest contest of the night, Brighton forced overtime with only 0:04 remaining in regulation on their way to defeating Fairport 10-9. This was the first time that the Barons had defeated the Red Raiders (who have won the last five meetings). The Red Raiders continue to struggle, having lost their last five contests including the last two games in overtime. Full Story

Irondequoit Over Churchville-Chili

NOTES: Irondequoit continued their winning streak over Churchville-Chili with their eighth straight win over the Saints 11-8. The Saints have never defeated the Eagles but this three goal defeat was the closest they have come since 2009 when they only lost by a single goal 6-5.  Full Story

Victor Over Hamburg

NOTES: Victor scored the first few goals in the opening minutes of the game but the Bulldogs brought the game as close as 7-5. Victor and Pittsford are the only remaining undefeated teams in the Section, but they are scheduled to play at Pittsford next Thursday. Full Story

NOTES: Although Mynderse led to start the game, Waterloo scored four unanswered goals in the first and second quarters to take the lead on their way to a 10-7 win over the Blue Devils. Waterloo never trailed again after they took the lead at 3:59 in the second quarter.  Full Story

Avon Cancels The Rest of It's Season

With regret, Avon Athletic Director Andy Englert announced that the Avon Braves have cancelled the rest of their season, due to lack of available players. The team, which started with fifteen players, had a number of injuries and other issues that took the number of available players to less than ten. Full Story

Wednesday: Gananda and Geneva Win Tonight

Gananda came out with fourteen unanswered goals in the first half to defeat Marcus Whitman in Finger Lakes action. In another Finger Lakes games, Geneva was a 16-7 winner over Newark. Full Story

Churchville Beats Lightning 14-10

NOTES:  Churchville-Chili took the lead back from Greece Arcadia/Olympia with 1:09 remaining in the first quarter and held off all their advances to defeat the Lightning 14-10. The Saints scored the final two goals of the contest to cement the victory. Gavin Catalano had a strong game for Gates between the pipes with 20 saves (59%) and was a key factor in keeping the Lightning in the game. Thomas Streak Continues

NOTES:  Thomas continued their winning streak having won the last 11 contests (including three by only a single goal). The Titan's only two losses of the season have been with undefeated Victor and previously undefeated Pittsford. The Titans held off a late scoring drive by Penfield to defeat the Patriots 8-7. Pal-Mac 13 - Waterloo 10

NOTES:   Pal-Mac goalie Jared Hurlbutt came up big between the pipes in the second half making 11 saves on 12 shots on cage. Full Story

Midlakes Over Mynderse 11-8

NOTES:  In their second meeting of the season, Midlakes defeated Mynderse 11-8 (they defeated the Blue Devils 9-7 on April 9th). Like in their first meeting, the game changed leaders multiple times. Back in April, Midlakes took the early lead before Mynderse fought back to take the lead in the third quarter. Midlakes scored the final four goals and held the Blue Devils scoreless for the final 12:21. Full Story

Hilton Wins in a Close One

NOTES:  Hilton scored the game winning goal with 0:09 remaining in regulation to defeat Webster Schroeder 9-8. Schroeder scored the first goal of the contest with an unassisted goals from Blake Balcaen and Jared Griffin. Hilton then scored five unanswered goals with scoring for Zeus Doser (3), Michael Richardson and Jordan DePetres. Doser was the big scorer of the night with 4g-1a. The game that everyone has been talking about saw two undefeated teams putting it on the line. The fans were not disappointed in the game that saw a tying goal by Pittsford (14-1) with four seconds left and then an overtime win by Victor (14-0) Full Story

Haverling Wins in Overtime

NOTES:  Haverling scored the final four goals of the game including the game winner in overtime to defeat Waterloo 8-7. This was the first win for the Rams since 2012 and this was only their third win against the Indians in program history. The game winning goal was scored by Connor Cupp with an assist from Patrick Brewer with 0:20 remaining in the first overtime period. Full Story

Ryan Maloney named POW by Inside Lacrosse

Inside Lacrosse, earlier this week announced that they named junior attackman, Ryan Maloney, as their Player of the Week. They sight, in the notice, that Ryan had 2g-3a in the game against Pittsford and note that he had the assist on the game winning overtime goals by Drew Collins. Full Story

NOTES:  Newark scored the first goal and although Brockport kept the game close they never tied. The Reds won 9-8 with Conor Tickner coming up big with two saves at 0:12 and 0:04 remaining in regulation. Tickner finished the contest with 10 saves (56%).  Full Story

Canandaigua 12 - Rush-Henrietta 8

NOTES: In a back and forth game, Canandaigua scored the final four goals to secure a 12-8 win over Rush-Henrietta. The game was a close one throughout with five ties and three lead changes. The Braves came out with the opening goal to take the first lead of the contest. Patrick Bay scored unassisted with the first of his 2g-1a. R-H scored the next goal with Nick Lenhard scoring off a pass from Curtis Raymond. Raymond was one of the big scorer for the Royal Comets with 1g-2a. Jake Hughes also finished with 3g for R-H. Lightning 10 - Brockport 6

Greece Arcadia/Olympia scored six out of seven straight goals to secure their 10-6 win over Brockport. The game was close for the first two quarters before the Lightning opened up their scoring in the late second/early third quarters. Quinton Caleb score the opening goal of the contest for the Blue Devils with an assist from Austin Myers. Myers finished with a team leading 1g-2a. Caleb led the Blue Devils in shots with 10 (4 on cage). Full Story

Spencerport 10 - Thunder 9 in Overtime

NOTES:  In one of the strongest comebacks in recent years, Spencerport fought back from a 9-0 deficit to defeat Greece Athena/Odyssey 10-9. The Thunder were leading 9-0 with 4:26 remaining in the third quarter when their final goal was scored. The first Ranger goal was scored with 3:57 remaining in third quarter. They old added one more goal in third quarter, an unassisted goal from Victor Pascucci with 0:01 remaining. Spencerport scored seven goals in the fourth quarter to tie the game. Full Story

Aquinas Takes Canisius 11-5

NOTES:  After losing to Canisius 8-3 in their second game of the season, Aquinas redeemed themselves tonight defeating the Crusaders 11-5. The win came on the outstanding play by sophomore goalie Tony Deleo. Deleo was 53% in their first contest with nine saves compared to 77% with 17 saves in tonight's contest. Deleo stepped up in the third quarter especially with 7 saves while holding the Crusaders scoreless. Full Story

NOTES: Livonia took the early 5-1 lead before Haverling fought back and defeated the Bulldogs 9-8. The Rams scored five of the last seven goals to secure their win; including two man-up goals. NOTES:  Webster Thomas scored the first three goals and the final two goals in their 6-4 win over Hilton. The Cadets scored three of their goals in a single stretch with 4 out of 5 coming in a row. Pittsford senior midfielder Ryan Fairbrother recently announced his commitment to attend and play lacrosse for the United States Military Academy (West Point) as a member of the class 2020. NOTES:  In the first Storm game of the season, Greece Athena/Odyssey defeated Greece Arcadia/Olympia 10-9. Tonight, the Lightning took revenge, defeating the Thunder 11-10. Arc/Oly scored the opening goal of the game and never trailed in the victory. The Thunder tied the game once (4-4) and had the score within a single goal four times, but could not take the lead. The 2015 tournaments have been seeded and the schedules are set. Pittsford (Class A) with a record of 15-1 is the top of Class A. Penfield, Fairport and Rush-Henrietta took positions two, three and four. Fairport and Rush-Henrietta tied and Fairport won in the tie-breaker (with their win head-to-head on Thursday). All eight teams play in Tuesday quarterfinal contests at the home field of the higher seeded team.

Rush-Henrietta 12 - Hilton 11 in Overtime

In the closest game of the tournament so far, fourth seeded Rush-Henrietta scored just 0:07 into overtime to defeat fifth seeded Hilton. After trailing 8-4 at halftime, the Royal Comets fought back hard in the second half, outscoring Hilton 8-3 in the final twenty-four minutes. Penfield stood on the shoulders of their two newest All-Americans, Max Spaan and Willie Klan, to secure an 8-7 overtime victory over 2014 Class A Champion Fairport. The Red Raiders fought hard throughout the contest, but in the end, the Patriots scored the final two goals to secure their win. Full Story

Victor Takes CA in Class B Semi

Top seeded Victor scored the opening three goals and led 7-1 in the first quarter on their way to a 12-9 win over fourth seeded Canandaigua. The Blue Devils dominated the opening half before slowing down in the second half and allowing Canandaigua to get back in the game.  Full Story

Aquinas Over Newark in Class C Semi

NOTES: Third seeded Aquinas defeated tenth seeded Newark 15-5. The Reds, who were previously the lowest seed currently in the tournament, kept the game close the first half before the Little Irish scored eight unanswered goals in the third and fourth quarters.  Full Story

Thomas Over Irondequoit

NOTES:  In a game that was plagued by penalties, second seeded Webster Thomas defeated sixth seeded Irondequoit 14-12. The first half was relatively tame with two personal penalties and one technical. However, in the second half there were nine personals and seven technical. Although Irondequoit scored the opening goal, the Titans tied or led the game for 47:52 of the 48:00 contest.  Full Story

Section Five Championship Day - Wednesday May 27th

The games have now been decided and in all but one case, the seedings have predicted the finals. All that is left is to play the final games in the Section Five season. The winners will move on the the New York State Tournament, most of which will be here at the same St. John Fisher College Stadium. Full Story

Section 6 - Championships will be on Tuesday, May 26th at Grand Island. In Class A Clarence (#1) lost to Orchard Park (#2). In Class B Hamburg(#1) defeated Niagara Wheatfield (#2) and in Class C Akron (#1) beat Silver Creek (#3). The winners will play the Section Five Champions at St. John Fisher College on Saturday, May 30th. Full Story

Penn Yan Wins 20th Sectional Championship

Penn Yan came out strong with a 9-0 start before defeating Aquinas 12-2. The Mustangs win gave them their 20th Section Five title. Midfielder Austin Fingar finished the game with 3g-2a and was named Class C All Tournament MVP. The attack from Penn Yan finished with 7g-2a between them and were all named to the All-Tournament Team, Sean Emerson, Craig Gerhardt and Tate Stewart. Full Story

Victor Repeats at Section Five Champ

Victor scored seven unanswered goals on their way to a 20-8 win over Webster Thomas. The game was close for the first quarter before a weather delay between the first and second quarters. Coming out of the delay, Victor scored five unanswered goals to increase their lead to 9-2. The Blue Devils had 10 players make their offensive scorebook with Drew Collins leading with 4g-2a. Mike DeMarco (4g-1a), Jamie Trimboli (3g-1a) and Ryan Maloney (2g-2a) added to the scorebook for Victor. Full Story

Pittsford Wins Championship

After their last minute loss last season in the Sectional Finals, The Panthers came back this season looking for the big win. After a back and forth first quarter where Penfield held the lead twice, the Panthers scored four unanswered goals to go up 5-2 and they never looked back. Pittsford defeated Penfield 11-6 to secure their fourth Sectional title and first since 2011. Full Story

This is the fifth year for the Section Five All-Section Team. It is an effort by the Lacrosse Committee and the coaches of Section Five to identify some of the top players among the over 1,100 varsity players in the section this year.  Full Story

The All Tournament Teams for 2015 were announced on Championship Wednesday. MVP for A, B and C were Jon Perotto (Pittsford), T.D. Ierlan (Victor) and Austin Fingar (Penn Yan). Players were selected on the basis of their performances in the Section Five Tournament games. Full Story

NYS Quarters: Penn Yan Over Akron

Penn Yan took the game into running time in the third quarter on their way to a 20-8 win over previously undefeated Akron (Section VI). The Mustangs scored the first four goals of the game and led throughout the contest. A short lightning delay in the opening quarter stopped play with Penn Yan leading 1-0. Junior midfielder Austin Fingar dominated the game finishing with 7g-1a. He also led his team with 12 ground balls. Full Story

Victor took the game into running time to start the third quarter on their way to a 20-8 win over Hamburg. The Bulldogs came back in the fourth quarter after the Blue Devils pulled their starters. Victor played four different goalies during the game. Starting goalie Chayse Ierlan played the opening half and had 2 recorded saves and 3 goals against. Pittsford took the early 5-2 lead after the first quarter on their way to a 16-12 win over Orchard Park (Section 6). The Panther`s Jonathan Perotto finished with 6g-3a to lead his team. Colby Barker added 4g-2a and Jack Kaufman added 4g. Orchard Park senior midfielder Kevin Goltz finished with 6g to lead the Quakers. Attackmen Jack Crowley added 4a and Kevin McParlane added 3g. The All Star list is out recognizing the GRALL players for the 2015 season. Senior defenseman, Isaac Swartzman from McQuaid Jesuit was selected as GRALL "Player of the Year". The GRALL coaches gave the Sportsmanship award to Livonia. Full Story
