After a triple overtime win in the Class B Finals last season, Canandaigua returns at the top of the pack.  The Braves lost their next game to the Section VI Champion Hamburg.  They return fifty-two percent of their roster this season with fourteen new players joining the team.  Full Story

Pittsford Over Ithaca in Opener

On paper, Pittsford looked strong in the preseason with a strong mixture of dominate offensive players and a returning defense that was already proven last year. In their opening today, they solidified that impression. Senior midfielder Brandon Barker was pretty much unstoppable from the front and the long sticks look like they are at mid-season. Full Story

 Penn Yan has a young squad this year that includes three 8th graders, two freshmen and three sophomores, but they still behave as one of the most disciplined teams in the Section. Junior goalie Gage Ponsetti had a good day in the goal for the Mustangs (67%) and senior Ben Covert(5g) was a dominating force at the midfield. Full Story

Victor Over Corning

T.D. Ierlan started out this year right where he left off last year, winning seventeen of twenty face offs for the Blue Devils (85%). His dominance at the "X" helped give Victor a 43-25 shooting advantage and his team leading twelve ground balls helped give Victor a 44-18 ground ball advantage. Full Story

West Genesee 6 - Fairport 4

Fairport started off with a 2-1 first quarter that lasted to halftime, but the Wildcats came back in the second half for the win. Fairport Head Coach Mike Torrelli said even in the loss, he was proud of his team. Full Story

Jared Calderon Chooses SUNY Geneseo

Head Coach Dan James recently announced that McQuaid Jesuit Senior midfielder Jared Calderon will continue his studies and play lacrosse at SUNY Geneseo. A third year varsity player for the Jesuit Knights, Calderon made the early decision to join Coach Jim Lyons and the Geneseo Knights in December joining a squad comprised of nine other Section Five alums and the first from McQuaid. Brockport Over Eastridge 12-9

After outscoring Eastridge 6-3 in the second half, Brockport defeated the Lancers 12-9. This was the first win for the Blue Devils over the Lancers since April 2013. The game was high scoring with both teams scoring on over 30% of their total shots. The majority of the scoring came from three players.  Full Story

Lightning Overcomes Gates

Greece Arcadia/Odyssey played strong consistent lacrosse in their 11-8 win over Gates Chili. The Lightning scored 9 out of the first 11 goals to lead 9-2 with 6:27 remaining in the third quarter. Gates Chili scored 6 of the last 8 goals to make the final score look closer than the contest. Arc/Oly saw the return of senior Devon Zaov with 4g-1a.  Full Story

We did not receive much information on Penfield's 5-4 win over Fairport. Penfield scored the only goal of the first quarter to take the early lead. The Red Raiders followed with the only goal of the second quarter to force a 1-1 tie at halftime. Fairport pressed the beginning of the second quarter, scoring the first two goals to take a 3-1 lead. Big Win for Hilton Over CA

Hilton has faced Canandaigua 3 times in the last 10 years and came into tonight’s contest 1-1 against the Braves. With tonight’s 10-8 win the Cadets now take the lead in the series 2-1. The first time the teams faced in 2010 Canandaigua won 15-4. One year later the Cadets came back for a 13-12 victory, outscoring the Braves 5-1 in the final quarter. Full Story

Thunder in One Goal Win Over Gates

In a game where the score was never more than two goals apart, Greece Athena/Odyssey defeated Gates Chili 13-12. The Thunder scored the final goal with only 0:10 left in regulation. Sophomore midfielder Zack Gibaud scored his fourth goal of the game for the win. Over the past ten years, this is only the third time that Greece has defeated Gates Chili who have won twelve. Haverling led for a short period in the opting quarter before McQuaid Jesuit scored seven of the next eight goals to take the lead. The Knights held a three goal lead for the remainder of the game. Midlakes Scores Three Late Goals for Win

Midlakes scored the first four and last three goals in their 9-7 win over Mynderse Academy. The Blue Devils kept up heavy pressure in third quarter as they took the lead twice, but could not hold on in the final quarter. The final tying goal, as well as the go ahead goal, were both scored during extra-man opportunities for Midlakes. Full Story

Livonia Over AQ in OT

Livonia took the game into overtime to defeat Aquinas 5-4. The Bulldogs got their sixth win in the past ten years over the Little Irish (20 wins). Holding Aquinas to only four goals is the strongest defensive performance in the records. Livonia used two, two-goal runs to secure the win. One was in the first and one was in the third. The Little Irish scored three goals in the second quarter. Both teams were held scoreless in the fourth quarter. Full Story

Gananda Surges to Victory Over Wayne

Gananda took their first lead of the game with 7:22 remaining in the fourth quarter and then held off the advances of Wayne to defeat the Screaming Eagles 9-8. The Red Raiders held Hilton scoreless for the final 28 minutes in their 12-3 win over the Cadets. Fairport kept the pressure up for four quarters to secure their fourth win of the season. The game was close for the first half with the halftime score set at 3-3. In a back and forth game, Gates-Chili scored five unanswered goals to start the fourth quarter and secure their 10-7 win over Brockport. The Spartans had a strong opening and closing to the contest with the Blue Devils playing strong in in the middle quarters. The game finished with eighteen penalties and five goals scored during man-up. Full Story

Webster Thomas Beats Penn Yan By One

Thomas scored five unanswered goals spanning the second and third quarters to defeat Penn Yan 8-7. The Titans and Mustangs have played six times in the last five years and with the Thomas win, the series is now tied 3-3. Churchville-Chili remained undefeated with an 11-8 win over Canandaigua. The Saints have faced the Braves seven times in the last five years and this is only their second win. Eagles Take Spencerport 7-5

 Irondequoit kept their winning streak against Spencerport alive with a 7-5 win over the Rangers. Over the past 10 years the Eagles have won all five games against the Rangers. In today's contest, Irondequoit scored the first three goals and held a minimum two goal advantage throughout. The largest gap came in the fourth quarter when they led 7-3. Full Story

Clarence 9 - Schroeder 7

Schroeder kept pace with Clarence (of Section VI) four three quarters until the Red Devils pulled away with four unanswered goals in the final quarter. The Warriors scored the final two goals but it was not enough as Clarence won 9-7. Schroeder had six different players make the scorebook. Full Story

Canandaigua Over Penn Yan by One

It was an exciting game at Canandaigua as the youth players welcomed the Varsity team, led by the drums, to Exhibition Field. Canandaigua scored the first two goals and at one point led 4-1, which was the biggest difference in the game. The quarter ended with the Braves up 4-2. Penn Yan scored first in the second quarter and then matched CA goal for goal for rest of the quarter. Canandaigua led 6-5 at the half. Full Story

Saints Take Spartans 11-10

Churchville-Chili only led their game for less than one minute but it was the final minute and they won the game 11-10. Gates Chili led or tied for the first 47:03 before Churchville-Chili scored the final goal of the contest to secure their win. The Spartans were looking for only their second wins over the Saints (Churchville-Chili lead 13-1 in last ten years). Full Story

Blake Cognata Memorial Game Slated for May 9th

In 2013, Fairport senior Blake Cognata lost his battle with Ewing`s Sarcoma, a rare cancer. The Fairport High School football and lacrosse player died just before his eighteenth birthday, but the lacrosse communities have continued to commit themselves to insure that his memory will live on. Greece Arcadia/Olympia and Brockport had a tough back and forth game with Brockport coming out on top 7-6. The Blue Devils won for the first time since 2012. Colin McElligott Selects the University of Indianapolis

Spencerport Head Coach Tim Britton recently announced that Spencerport junior attackmanColin McElligott has given a verbal commitment to study and continue his lacrosse career at the University of Indianapolis. A third year varsity player for the Rangers, McElligott has 130 career points including 30 goals and 55 assists during the 2014 season, earning him 1st Team All-County D-3 and 2nd Team All-Section honors as a sophomore. Eastridge Beats Lighting by One

Eastridge scored the first goal and only allowed the game to be tied once in their 10-9 win over Greece Arcadia/Olympia. The Lancers opening goal was scored by Clark Pearce with an assist from Andrew Doktor. Pearce finished the game with 3g-1a to lead his team. In one of the two overtime games of the night, Gates Chili never led before winning the game in overtime 9-8 against Spencerport. The Spartans trailed, including never having the game tied, until 1:20 left in regulation. Man-up was a major factor in the game with Gates Chili scoring on 4/7 and Spencerport scoring on 2/6. Senior midfielder Grant Howard recently signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his studies and play lacrosse at Walsh University (North Canton, Ohio) after his high school graduation from Newark this spring. Full Story

Coach Wilson reported that it was "Pittsford day" at Midlakes where the officials were Joe Van Cura and Jake Boyce. Joe coached with Coach Wilson in the early years of the Pittsford program and Jake played for Coach Wilson toward the end of his tenure there. Full Story

Midlakes Takes Newark 10-7

Although Newark took a 3-1 lead at the end of the first quarter and led at the half 6-4, Midlakes came back in the second half, outscoring Newark 6-1 for a 10-7 win for the Eagles. Senior midfielder Chris Goodman (4g-1a) scored the tying goal on a pass from senior attackman Jeshurun Eldridge with six minutes left in the game. Less than two minutes later senior attackman Alex Holt scored the go-ahead goal on a feed from Matt Vandamme. Full Story
