Rochester Hall of Fame Inducts Four

2008 - It is Long Island Again

Long Island easily defeated Central to walk away with their fourth consecutive Gold Medal. Hudson Valley also defeated Western to win the Bronze Medal. This was Long Island's 15th Gold Medal, Central's 9th Silver Medal, and Hudson Valley's 7th Bronze Medal. Full Story

Sunday - Hudson Valley Takes Bronze

Hudson Valley controlled the game and won the bronze medal (7-5) in men's lacrosse at the 31st annual Empire State Games. The entire team contributed to the victory but the game was won on the exemplary achievements of two particular Valley players. Full Story

Sunday - Island Takes Gold Again

Long Island dominated Central, in a win that was one goal away from running time and saw the Island winning 14-3. The game really did not start running away until the third quarter. This Gold Medal game, unlike any of the other games in the tournament was played as four twelve minute quarters instead of ten minute quarters. Full Story

Sunday - Island, Central and Valley go 1-2-3

Saturday - Western beats ADK 11-4

Western played a smart game and defeated Adirondack 11-4. Western attack led their scoring with 9/11 goals. Adirondack had four different players score. Full Story

Saturday - Island Still Undefeated

Long Island dominated against New York City in the second game of the day, winning 17-1. The lone NYC goal was scored with 4:13 remaining in the first quarter when Jon Tomashoff scored for the City on a clear. Full Story

Saturday - Central and The Valley

Hudson Valley played 36.5 minutes of lacrosse better then Central. They were smarter, more focused and more controlled. However, as with most sports, 3.5 minutes of a lack of concentration can be the difference between winning and loosing. Full Story

Friday - Valley over NYC 12-5

In the first game of the second day of competition Hudson Valley defeated NYC 12-5. Valley controlled the ball for most of the game. Full Story

Friday - Western Takes Central 6-5

In one of the best games of the tournament, Western and Central played an exciting game with two equally matched teams. Both teams were in excellent form and demonstrated a high level of lacrosse skill and team strategy. Full Story

Friday - Island over ADK 11-2

Long Island dominated Adirondack in their first game of the day with an 11-2 win. The Island topped most aspects of play and showcased their high caliber of athletes and overall skill level. Full Story

Friday - Valley Over Western 10-8

The fourth quarter was the deciding factor in the Hudson Valley vs Western game. Western won the first quarter 4-2 and held the two goal lead for three quarters.Valley scored four unanswered goals at the start the last quarter to take the lead away from Western and build their own two goal lead. Friday - NYC Over ADK 8-5

New York City defeated Adirondack 8-5 in a close back and forth game. NYC used a five goal streak spanning the last three quarters to win the game. NYC kept ADK scoreless for about 15 minutes from 1:33 in the 2nd until 6:13 in 4th. Full Story

Friday - Long Island Remains Undefeated

This year has been a year of great competition and great lacrosse games. In a long expected match-up, Long Island beat Central 7-6 and remained 4-0 with NYC tomorrow. Having defeated Western by two goals and Hudson Valley by one goal, The Island added their fourth by defeating Central by one goal. Full Story

Thursday - Western over NYC 12-4

In the final game of the first day of competition, the Western team easily defeated New York City, 12-4. Three of NYC`s four goals were scored during EMO and three of NYC goals were scored by Forest Sonnenfeldt. Full Story

Thursday - Island over Valley 9-8

Long Island remained undefeated with their win over Hudson Valley 9-8 although, much like their earlier game against Western, it was not a run away. Long Island played their style of lacrosse and remained consistently strong throughout the game. Full Story

Thursday - Island over Western 14-12

Long Island opened up with a hard fought victory over Western. The game was a game of streaks with the Island having a streak of four and one of eight while Western had two streaks of four and one of three. Full Story

Thursday - Central Takes City 12-4

Central and NYC was a close game up until the fourth quarter when Central broke open the scoring and won the quarter 7-2. Central won the game with a 12-4 score. Full Story

Thursday - Valley Over ADK 10-3

Hudson Valley defeated Adirondack 10-3 in the second game of the day. Hudson Valley outscored ADK 8-1 in the last three quarters. Full Story

Thursday - Central Over ADK 12-3

In the first game of the second round, Central easily defeated Adirondack 12-3 to remain undefeated at 2-0. Central outscored Adirondack 5-1 in the first and then 5-0 in the fourth. Both teams scored one goal each in the second and third quarters. Full Story

Standing on the restraining line this afternoon at the site of the Men's Lacrosse Games this weekend at Binghamton University, we came to a number of realizations. After a beautiful summer, on Wednesday the rain came in droves, forcing the opening ceremonies inside and leaving standing water across the turf field. Full Story

2008 Empire State Games

It was the 31st anniversary of the Empire State Games, and they were played in Westchester from July 23th-27th. Six thousand athletes from the six regions competed in the Olympic style games. Full Story
