Week in Review: Week 7

It is hard to imagine, but we are entering the final week of regular season games. The last games will be played on Friday and the tournaments will begin on May 21st. Two hundred and forty-seven games have been played thus far. Sixty-four (of seventy-three out of Section games scheduled) have been played. Section five teams have won forty-five (70%). Victor, Thomas, HF-L, Gananda and McQuaid Jesuit continue at the top of their leagues. Full Story

Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW: With the end of the regular season less than a week away, thirteen games were played today. Among the close ones were Irondequoit over Spencerport, Thomas over Baldwinsville, Gates Chili over the Pride, Schroeder over Hilton and Penn Yan over St. Joseph. Full Story

Penfield and Canandaigua Win

Friday: DAY IN REVIEW: Section Five picked up two more out of section wins against Section 6 teams tonight as Canandaigua beat Hamburg 9-4 and Penfield beat West Seneca East 16-7. Junior attackman Jack Johnson started the scoring in Canandaigua and finsihed with 3g-1a. Mark Belles, also a junior attackman added 1g-3a for the Braves. Full Story

McDermott Leads Brighton to Victory

Brighton scored six unanswered goals in the third quarter to pull away from Spencerport.  The Barons won 18-11 after the Rangers scored the final two goals.  Brighton was led in scoring by Brady McDermott with 6g-3a.  The first goal of the game was scored only 0:25 into play with B. McDermott finding Shea McDonald open on the crease after a fast-break down the field. Full Story

Warriors Win Second Straight OT Game

Connor Ball scored an unassisted goal 1:13 into the first overtime period to give Webster Schroeder their second straight overtime line.  The Warriors defeated Webster Thomas 11-10 in the inter-district match.  The game was back and forth for its entirety; the score was never further apart than a two goal difference. Pittsford and Schroeder Win OT games

Tuesday: DAY IN REVIEW: There were most certainly a lot of exciting games played in the section today that included four one-goal games, two in overtime. Pittsford beat Brighton in overtime and Schroeder won the battle in Webster in overtime. The Finger Lakes Tournament began today with three good matchups. Full Story

Hilton over Irondequoit After Three Late Goals

Monday: DAY IN REVIEW: In a close game with four ties, Hilton (6-7) scored three goals in the last quarter to beat Irondequoit (8-4) 9-7. Eight players for the Cadets made the offensive book as as six players scored one goal each. Jordan DePetres had 2g and Ben Mitrano had 1g-1a to lead the Cadets. Junior face off middie, Shawn Doran won 13 draws (72%) and led the team in ground balls with twelve while Jacob Kelsey made a dozen saves (63%). Phil Barilla and Kessel Stefano each has 2g for Irondequoit. It was only the second win for Hilton against the Eagles since 2003. Full Story

There were rainy days but also a couple of days with sunshine last week . One hundred and eighty-one games have been played thus far. Webster Thomas (10-0) beat Penfield and Hilton to remain the only undefeated team at this point. Gananda (7-1) lost to the Greece Storm last week. Fourty-five (of seventy-three out of Section games scheduled) have been played. Section five teams have won thirty-one (69%). Victor, Thomas, HFL, Gananda and McQuaid Jesuit continue at the top of their leagues with undefeated league records. Full Story

Sunday: DAY IN REVIEW: On a rare Sunday game, Aquinas fell to the visiting St Joseph Collegiate Marauders (10-2)from Section 6. Full Story

Weise Scores in Overtime to Lift Gananda

Gananda’s John Weise scored the game winning goal during the first overtime period.  The Blue Panthers defeated Wayne 9-8 after scoring four of the last five goals.  Gananda opened up the game with the first two goals.  Evan Smith scored off a feed from Jake Rapp followed by Rapp scoring off a feed from Weise.  Wayne responded with five unanswered goals to go up 5-2 with 2:23 remaining in the half.  Brett Cunningham scored the final goal of the half to put the Blue Panthers within two goals. FM Defeats Pittsford

Fayetteville-Manlius scored the first three goals of the game and although Pittsford tied the game three times, the Hornets never let go of the lead in their 8-6 win.  FM’s opener was scored with an outside shot by Nick Papa.  Papa finished with 3g-2a to lead his team.  Two minutes later, Chris Lubrino scored on a fast-break goal. HFL Comes Back in Fourth Quarter for Win

HFL and Hilton played a close game tonight with the Cougars winning 8-6.  HFL opened up with the first goal less than one minute into play.  Jonathan Roth scored with a single player drive down the left side to give the Cougars and early 1-0 lead.  Two minutes later and Hilton responded.  Justin Mosher drove at the cage and instead of taking a shot, he passed off to Jordan DePetres behind the cage.  DePetres was already moving and came around the goal line to finish into the back of the net. Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW: On a bright Saturday, there were fourteen games played. Seven were with out of Section teams and the local teams won six. Fairport was a 14-12 winner over Jamesville-DeWitt (Section 3). The Red Raiders led 10-6 at the half. Sophomore midfielder Klay Stuver led the offense with seven goals and sophomore goalie Tim Defendis recorded eighteen saves (60%). Fairport advances to 7-4 while JD drops top 10-2. Full Story

Penfield over Orchard Park on Friday

Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: Penfield scored the first goal on Senior Night and never trailed in their 8-4 win over Orchard Park. Penfield was led in scoring by Jack Joyce with 2g-3a. Joyce assisted the first three goals for the Patriots. The first two were almost identical with outside passes to high shots. The first was scored by Michael Mitchell and the second by Jason Berardicurti. Orchard Park scored the first goal with Cayden Collins feeding Ben Ingalls on a high left flat. The third goal saw Joyce assisting on a give and go with Joey Barboza scoring with a high-rising underhand shot. The Patriots led 3-1 after 12 minutes. Full Story

Schroeder Uses OT For Win Over Irondequoit

Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: In the closet game of the night, Schroeder defeated Irondequoit 11-10. This is the third overtime game of the season for the Eagles (and the first that they have lost). AJ Fiorio scored his second goal of the game with 2:49 remaining in overtime with a feed from Connor Ball to give the Warriors the win. Full Story

Victor ends Thomas Undefeated Season

And then there were none, as the last undefeated team lost. In a greatly anticipated game this afternoon, the Blue Devils took a four goal lead and never lost it, even though the Tttans scored three goals in the last eight minutes to bring the game within one. Victor saw offense from eight different players with Camden Hay leading with 3g and Sam Lambert added 3a. Trevor Ford led the Titans with four goals, two of which were scored in the last minute of the game. Full Story

Will Reese Gives Mynderse the OT Win

In the only game in the section today, junior attackman Will Reese scored the last of his three goals to give the Blue Devils the 11-10 OT win. The game was tied seven times and mostly one goal apart throughout the game at Mynderse on "Youth Lacrosse Day". On key in the game was the stellar performance by senior face off midfielder Andrew Peterman (2g-1a) who won twenty of twenty-four draws and led the team in ground balls with nineteen. Timmy Cornish had 1g-4a and Schuyler Bredesen added 4g for Marcus Whitman whose goalie, Michael Dhondt had 19 saves (63%) to help keep the game close. Full Story

Victor Spoils Corning Undefeated Season

Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW: Victor faced a strong Corning team, who had eleven wins before today and spoiled their undefeated season with a 14-3 win at home. Leading the offense was sophomore attackman Camden Hay who had 4g. Nine other players each scored one goal. Senior midfielder Tuker Hill had eleven face off wins (92%). Canandaigua beat Orchard Park on the road. Full Story

AQ, Greece and Whitman Win

Friday: DAY IN REVIEW: Aquinas travelled to Buffalo for their 14-10 win over Canisius. Junior attackman Eli Chalmers led the offense with 5g-3a. Sebastian Gimeli won 14 of 21 draws for AQ. The Greece Storm won their eighth game of the season with their victory over Bloomfield-Honeoye. Junior attackman Paul Forte had 4g-2a in the game. After four ties, Marcus Whitman broke away from Newark in the third quarter and ended with a 9-6 win. Senior attackman Schuyler Bredesen led the offense with 5g. Michael Dhondt recorded 9 saves (60%) in the cage for the Wildcats. Full Story
