There were thirty-five teams playing in Section V. Bishop Kearney scheduled seven games but elected to forgo the tournament at the end of the season. There were 893 players on the final rosters, up 13 players from 2022. Rush-Henrietta and Victor carried the largest roster with thirty-six players and Haverling, Midlakes-Red Jacket and Waterloo with the smallest with sixteen.  Full Story

For the eighth time and after a brief absence, Section Five Lacrosse leadership has selected first, second and honorable mention lists of All-Section players. The 2023 first team lists fifteen players and includes the six All-Americans previously announced. "It`s always difficult to choose from so many talented players," said Section Five Chairman, Mike Simon. Full Story

The Rochester Chapter of USA Lacrosse recently announced the14th Annual Herb Fitch and Chris Barnes Lacrosse All Star Game player selections. This year's contest, featuring some of the best of the graduating seniors will be held on Thursday, June 15th at Victor High School. The boys' game will start at 6:00 PM and the girls' play at 8:00 PM. Full Story

DAY IN REVIEW: SUNDAY - After a great comeback in the last quarter, the Blue Devils ran out of time and lost 9-8 to a strong Garden City team from Section VIII who won their second title in a row. Full Story

Due to the smoke issues and air quality, the NYSPHSAAChampionship was moved to Sunday at Hofstra.

The 2023 season ends on Sunday with the playing of the Championship games which are held, this year, at Hofstra University.  Full Story

DAY IN REVIEW: FRIDAY - The Victor Blue Devils are on their way to the New York State Championships and will face the returning Champs from Garden City at 12:30 PM at Hofstra University on Sunday. Full Story

The Genesee Valley Lacrosse Officials Association (GVLOA) handed out their annual Steven R. Morgan Sportsmanship Awards to one team in each Class. Full Story

At their "Year-End Gathering" the members of the Genesee Valley Lacrosse Officials Association announced their annual Frank Mangione Award for Excellence award winner. Full Story

The All-Star list is out recognizing the GRALL players for the 2023 season.  The GRALL Player of the Year was Jackson McEnerney (Livonia-Avon). Full Story

The Head Coaches from the Finger Lakes met at the end of the season and determined their awards for 2023. Full Story

The Monroe County Division 1 Player of the Year was Mike Valent (Rush-Henrietta). Cameron Mesh (Spencerport) was the Division 2 Player of the Year and Jack Faiola (Canandaigua) was Division 3 Player of the Year. Nominees for the Bob Scott Award were Keenan Edwards (East United-Eastridge), Drew Pagano (Schroeder) and Jason Mosher (Hilton). Full Story

The Head Coaches of Section V considered players who had been nominated for All-American and All-Academic awards. The awards identify some of the best players from each area around the country. Each of the head coaches in the Section is allowed to vote on each of the awards. The selections from our area were then submitted to the USA Lacrosse for final approval. Full Story

Due to the smoke issues and air quality, the NYSPHSAA tournaments at both Cortland and Albany have been moved from Wednesday to Friday. The games times have also been changed.

Next up for the Section V Champions are the NYS Semi-finals, which will be held two different venues. Classes A and C will play at Homer High School. Classes B and D will be held at Tompkins Cortland Community College. Full Story

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - UPDATED - All four Section V teams won their Western Regional games today at St. John Fisher University in Pittsford. Pittsford and Victor took their games to running time early in the second half, while both Penn Yan and HFL took time before taking control. Full Story

Next up for the Section V Champions are the NYS Western Regionals, which are hosted this year by Section V at St. John Fisher University. Full Story

Victor won their first Championship title since 2019 with a 16-6 win over Spencerport. This was the first time in program history that Spencerport made the finals and the first time since Victor’s six year winning Streak (2014-2019) that the Blue Devils had made the finals. In addition to Victor Boys winning their title, the Victor Girls Lacrosse Team also won their Championship earlier in the evening with an 8-7 in quadruple overtime win over Irondequoit. Full Story

Penn Yan defeated Aquinas 11-6 to win their 12^th straight (and 27^th overall) Sectional Championship.  The Mustangs had a slow start in the first quarter, but picked up the pace for the remainder of the game and led throughout.  After three quarters, the Mustangs led 7-2 before both teams added four goals each in the final quarter. DAY IN REVIEW: WEDNESDAY - Penn Yan defeated Aquinas 11-6 to win their 12^th straight (and 27^th overall) Sectional Championship in the Class D game tonight. In the second game, Victor used seven different players including senior midfielder Braeden McConville who scored his first Varsity goal for the Blue Devils to the great delight of his teammates. After finishing as the runner-up last season, HFL came back to win their second Section Five Title in 3 years with a double overtime 9-8 win over Wayne.  This was the first double overtime Finals matchup since Victor over Thomas in 2018.  The Cougars’ Chase Perryman scored the game winner with 2:59 left in the second overtime period.  Perryman was named the Class B Tournament MVP and finished the game with 4g-2a.  Full Story
