Players of the Week - Group 3
lax pic

Section V Boys Lacrosse Coordinator Mike Simon in conjunction with the Canandaigua National Bank are, once again, sponsoring recognition of noteworthy performances throughout the season.

In our third group we have a junior and a senior who have had noteworthy performances in the last week.

Offensive Player of the Week

Sean OlvanyTeagan Fingar - Penn Yan Midfielder

Teagan Fingar There is no doubt that Teagan has been a a key element in the success of the Mustangs, not only this year but ever since he joined the Varsity as an eighth grader. The senior midfielder leads his team in goals, assists and points and is committed to Mount St. Mary when he continues his education next year. Last week he scored the game winner against Homer with twenty seconds left in regulation. He was a big part of the 8-7 win, scoring in all but one goal (5g-2a). In the Geneva victory he added 2g-2a. He currently has 126 career goals, 80 assists.

Head Coach Brian Hobart says, "Teagan leads our team during games and practices.  His work ethic and desire to make himself and the team better is evident everyday. "

Defensive Player of the Week

Peyton LichBrady Quill - Hilton Defenseman

Brady Quill The Cadets have struggled, somewhat with wins so far with three losses by one goal (two in ot), but they were on a roll last week with a couple of big-time wins as they defeated Pittsford and Thomas. One of the reasons for their turn-around is the defensive performance of Brady who had a goal, seven takes and five ground balls against Pittsford and six takes and four more ground balls against Thomas.  The senior leads his team in ground ball production and takes and will take his skills to Albany next year.

Head Coach Tim Byrnes says, “Brady (team captain) had a great week covering the top attackman in both the Pittsford and Thomas games.  He had a big goal in the Pittsford game and many key takeaways in both games.  On the season he has 3 goals and 1 assist.”

Players of the Week - Group 2
lax pic

Section V Boys Lacrosse Coordinator Mike Simon in conjunction with the Canandaigua National Bank are, once again, sponsoring recognition of noteworthy performances throughout the season.

In our second group we have a couple of seniors who have had noteworthy performances in the last week.

Offensive Player of the Week

Sean OlvanyJonah Carrier - Irondequoit Faceoff Midfielder

Jonah Carrier has already made a strong statement about his last year with the Eagles. In his fourth year on the Varsity, with a career 75% win percentage at the faceoff "X", and 82 points, he had started this year with 118 faceoff wins (84%) and 16g-7a. Last week he had 17 faceoff wins (100%) in the Schroeder win,6 wins (60%) in the Ithaca win and 12 wins (86%) in the Penfield win, where the University of Maryland recruit scored the game-winning overtime goal.

Head Coach Aaron Bottazzo says, "Jonah is off to a great start. He has had a great work ethic from the off-season to now and is also stepping up in a big way as a team leader, which has been a key component to the team's progression early in the season. The most impressive part is the fact that Jonah is not only a great kid but a great teammate. It's a pleasure to be able to coach him and he is a great example for any of the other athletes in our program to look up to and understand what the standard is in which we want to play and carry ourselves!"

Defensive Player of the Week

Peyton LichPeyton Lich - Pal-Mac Goalie

Peyton Lich As the Red Raiders won all three games last week, Peyton posted 15 saves (68%) in the Marcus Whitman win, 9 saves (75%) in the Newark win and 7 saves (50%) in the Tully (Section III) win. The Ohio Northern recruit is in the fourth year on the Varsity and second year as the starter and thus far has a 70% saves average in his seven games this year (336 mins). The 2023 Finger Lakes first team pick has a career average is 68% with 267 saves.

Head Coach Joe Hill says, “Peyton has worked incredibly hard to get where he is, always honing his craft and finding people to push him. It is nice to have a veteran presence on the back end of our defense. ”
