Pittsford Wins Class A Title

After finishing the last two seasons as the Runner-up, Pittsford finally became the Class A Champions.  The Panthers defeated McQuaid Jesuit 9-5 tonight.  The game was close for the first half before Pittsford took over in the third and fourth quarters.  The Panthers scored eight straight goals spanning the second, third and fourth quarters.  The Panther defense held the Knights scoreless for over 36 minutes.  Leading the charge for the Panthers was Tournament MVP senior attackman Rex Kesselring.  Kesselring finished with 4g.  Full Story

*+Having punched their tickets in the semi-finals, the first Championship Day is set for Tuesday. Honeoye Falls-Lima, the top seeded team will play #3 Wayne to open the night starting at 5:00 PM. There twenty-five  tournament games played last week. There were seventy-two out of section games scheduled they all have been played. Section V teams won 43 and lost 29 (60%). There are no teams that are undefeated at this point. Full Story

Saturday: All Set for The Championships

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - The teams are now complete for Tuesday and Wednesday nights at St. John Fisher University, where the 2023 Section V champions will be determined. In the Class B semi-finals, Irondequoit came out with the first three goals, but Victor came back with the win. In the second game at Pittsford Sutherland, in a close game that was not determined until the fourth quarter, Spencerport defeated Schroeder 6-4, sending the Rangers to their first Sectional finals. In Class D, Penn Yan scored four goals in the first quarter and led at the half 7-3 on their way to a 13-3 win over Marcus Whitman. Aquinas scored four goals in the first quarter and five in the second and led 9-2 at the half. Full Story

Victor Advances to Class B Finals

Victor came back from a slow start in the first quarter with 11 unanswered goals spanning the first three quarters in their 16-9 win over Irondequoit.  The Blue Panthers will move on to face Spencerport in the Class B Finals on Wednesday.  The Blue Devils were led in scoring by senior attackman Pax Marshall (4g-4a).  Senior attackman Sam Gotham finished with 5g for the Blue Devils.  For the Eagles, the scoring was much more spread out with four different players finishing with two goals each (Cooper Moore, Ryan Boe, Dan Buckley and Aidan Greco).  Moore (the only non-senior) of the scoring group is a freshman. Spencerport Advances to the Class B Finals

Spencerport moves on the Class B Tournament for the first time in program history after their 6-4 win over Webster Schroeder.  The Rangers scored the last four goals of the game and held the Warriors scoreless throughout the second half.  Goalie Taylor Kaye finished with five saves (1 in the second half) on the game for the Rangers.  For the Warriors, Casey Berns recorded 7 saves. DAY IN REVIEW: FRIDAY - In the Class A semi-finals, the top two seeds advanced to the championship round as Pittsford beat Hilton and McQuaid Jesuit defeated Penfield. In the Class C tournament, top-seeded HFL won their game with Geneva and #4 Wayne beat second seeded Pal-Mac 12-5. Full Story

Pittsford Advances to the Class A Finals

SPECIAL REPORT: Pittsford moved on to the Class A Championship to face the winner of McQuaid Jesuit vs. Penfield.  The Panthers held the Cadets scoreless until the 4th quarter defeating Hilton 12-5.  The Cadets defense was noteworthy throughout the contest.  Goalie Jason Mosher had a strong game and finished with 12 saves for the game.  In addition to the strong performance in the cage, the Cadet defense played a strong zone throughout the contest.  The Panthers were forced into multiple bad shots throughout the contest.  The biggest problem from Hilton came from their limited possession time.  The Cadets struggled to have many chances at the goal.   Four of their five goals were scored in the final 3:03 of play. McQuaid Jesuit Advances to the Class A Finals

McQuaid Jesuit used a 7 goal third quarter to pull ahead and defeat Penfield 10-6 in tonight’s second match-up.  The game was a defensive game for three quarters with 9 of the 17 total goals coming in the third quarter.  Penfield’s Mason Schembri finished at 50% with 8 of his 10 saves coming in the first half.  McQuaid Jesuit’s Will Gordon finished at 60% with 9 saves in the contest.  Offensively, McQuaid Jesuit’s Henry Coke and Penfield’s Ethan Aust both finished with 3g to lead their respective teams.  McQuaid Jesuit moves on to face Pittsford in the Finals on Tuesday. Wednesday: Schroeder Takes Out Canandaigua

DAY IN REVIEW: WEDNESDAY - All of the quarterfinals in classes B and D were won by the higher seeded team except for # 7 Schroeder who, in a very low scoring close game, defeated #2 Canandaigua and will move on to play Spencerport in the semi-finals on Friday. Victor, who beat C-C will play Irondequoit, who beat Brighton. In Class D, Aquinas beat Haverling and will play Newark who beat Mynderse. Penn Yan beat Bloomfield-Honeoye and will play Marcus Whitman who beat Gananda. Full Story

DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - There were seven quarterfinal games today and in Class C the seeds held with Geneva, Pal-Mac and Wayne all advancing to the semi-finals on Friday at Canandaigua. In Class A Hilton #5 won their game with Rush-Henrietta #4 so the Cadets will advance with Pittsford, McQuaid and Penfield. Full Story

DAY IN REVIEW: MONDAY - The 2023 Section V tournaments began today with single out-bracket games in Classes B and D. Moving on to the quarterfinals are Haverling who won their game over Midlakes-Red Jacket 7-3 and Churchville-Chili who beat Gates Chili 16-4. Full Story

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - The golf event at Oak Hill was not the only program inconvenienced by the hard rain all day. The last six games of the regular season were played today. Bloomfield-Honeoye won their game with Brockport in "sudden victory". The Storm won their game with Gates Chili 9-4 and HFL beat Churchville-Chil 17-10,  but the four other games were mismatched. DAY IN REVIEW: THURSDAY - A four goal streak gave the Knights a 7-6 win over visiting Fairport. HF-L had a big win against Rush-Henrietta. Penfield beat Hilton and Canandaigua, in yet another low scoring game was the 3-2 winner at Thomas. The Saints had and exciting 9-8 win at Greece and Gananda won a 15-13 game against Kearney. Tuesday: Coach Whipple Wins 225th Game

DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - There were fourteen games played and it was the last game of the regular season for some teams. The Blue Panthers held off a fourth quarter surge by the Pride and held on for the 13-12 win. Aquinas, likewise held off a last quarter surge by the Lakers, winning 12-10 and locking up the GRALL title. Thomas won the battle at Webster and Penn Yan had a shutout against Clarence. Full Story

Monday: Greece Takes Out Canandaigua

DAY IN REVIEW: MONDAY - There were a couple of interesting results today, starting with an overtime win by Greece over Canandaigua. At Honeoye Falls-Lima, Brighton took a two goal third quarter lead and held on for the 7-4 win. Mynderse had a big win over Batavia-Notre Dame and McQuaid Jesuit had a 10-8 win over St Joes.E]. DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - It took overtime after seven ties for the Rangers to beat McQuaid Jesuit 10-9. Brighton scored first and never looked back as they beat Aquinas 11-8. An unmatched goal in the fourth quarter was one goal less than the Saints needed as Livonia-Avon won 8-7. Penn Yan has an overtime loss against a strong Lake Shore team from Buffalo and Schroeder held the Hawks scoreless in three quarters for their 5-3 win in Corning. Full Story
