2016 All-Section Five List Released |

This is the sixth year for the Section Five All-Section Team. It is an effort by the Lacrosse Committee and the coaches of Section Five to identify some of the top players among the over 1,100 varsity players in the section this year. Nominations for the lists came from Head coaches, administrators and SportsFive personnel. This year 15 players were selected for the first team, 13 players for second team and this year, 12 players on the third team. Our six All Americans automatically make the first team. All players on this list must first be named to their first team All-League teams or be from Independent teams. Full Story |

The Head Coaches of Section Five met recently to listen to the presentations about players who had been nominated for All-America team honors. The awards, are sponsored by US Lacrosse and identify some of the best players from each area of the country. Full Story |

In the third quarter of the Class C finals Penn Yan proved why they have won 21 Section Five Titles. This year was their sixth in a row and 18th in the last 19 years. Full Story |

Pittsford came into the "Big Game" ready to avenge their earlier loss and eager to prove that they could be "the top team in the country and they nearly did so. After leading for most of the game. The games have now been decided and all that is left is to play the final games in the Section Five season. The winners will move on the the New York State Tournament which will take place away from Section Five this year. Full Story |
Semi: Canandaigua Over C-C in OT |

Canandaigua fought back from a 10-5 deficit at the end of the third quarter to force overtime and then won 12-11 over previously undefeated Churchville-Chili. The Braves never led and only had the game tied twice (1-1 and 11-11). They scored when it mattered, in sudden death overtime, to secure the win. The Saints took control of the game for three quarters before the Braves fought back in the fourth. As the Braves got closer and closer to a tie game, they became more amped up and the Saints had more trouble staying in the lead. Full Story |
Semi: Thomas Over Irondequoit in OT |

*+After a delayed start due to weather, Webster Thomas fought back from a five goal deficit (8-3) to force overtime and then defeated Irondequoit 11-10. The Titans never led and only tied the game twice (9-9 and 10-10). They took their first lead in sudden victory overtime to secure their win and move into the Finals. Irondequoit controlled the game for nearly three full quarters before Thomas fought back at the end of the third. Full Story |

With the semifinals concluded, the teams are set for the 2016 Section Five Championships. Victor will play Pittsford in Class A, Thomas will play Canandaigua in Class B and Penn Yan will play Aquinas in Class C. Full Story |
Semi: Victor to Meet Pittsford in Finals |

Victor scored thirteen goals before Webster Schroeder got on the board. The Blue Devils won 21-4. They score too many unanswered goals to itemize each play. However, some stand-out performances throughout the game included: Ryan Maloney intercepting a pass between a defenseman and the goalie and scoring behind the back without breaking stride and long stick Patrick Barrow taking the ball coast and coast and scoring. Schroeder's first goal was scored with an impressive cross crease feed through traffic from Conor Bollin to Collin Griffin. Bollin finished with 2g-1a on 4 goals for the Warriors. Full Story |
Semi: Pittsford to Meet Victor in Finals |

After trailing 1-0, Pittsford scored four straight goals to take the lead for good. The Panthers kept up their scoring and, even though the Patriots scored late to make the score closer, they defeated Penfield 12-9. The Patriots scored the final four goals to decrease the deficit to only three goals. Pittsford`s largest lead was 12-5 at the end of the third quarters. Full Story |

C-C Remains Undefeated with 13-12 Win |

Churchville-Chili continued their undefeated season with a 13-12 win over Brighton. The Saints took the lead late in the second although Brighton kept the game close, for the second half. Brighton held the lead twice (late first and early second quarter). Churchville-Chili scored the first three with goals from Corey Yunker, Ryan Mead and Jason Tebo. Tebo scored 4g in the game, including his 100th career goal. Brighton scored their first goal with 5:59 remaining when Brett Randall scored the first of his 5g-2a. The Saints added their fourth, with Jacob Buck scoring off a feed from Yunker. Full Story |

Gananda took an early 3-0 lead on their way to an 11-10 victory over Pal-Mac. Although the Blue Panthers held a 3 goals lead twice in the first half (3-0 and 5-2) the game was tied at 5-5 at the half. In the second half the score was tied each step of the way with both teams taking turns leading. Full Story |
Wednesday: Two One Goal Wins - Higher Seeds Win |

Although the seeding for the Class B and Class C held through the quarterfinals, there were two exciting games. Gananda was an 11-10 winner over Pal-Mac and Churchville-Chili was a 13-12 winner over Brighton. The rest of the winners were Canandaigua, Pen Yan, Wayne, Aquinas, Thomas and Irondequoit. Schroeder Over Fairport By One Goal |

*+Earlier this season, Webster Schroeder lost to Fairport 4-3. In the first round of sectionals, the Warriors (#5 seed) came for revenge and defeated Fairport (#4 seed) 10-9. This was the first time that Schroeder has defeated Fairport since 2008. The Red Raiders have won the last ten contests. The game was a series of runs. Schroeder controlled both the beginning and the end of the game with Fairport making a six goals run to end the second quarter. Full Story |
