June 28, 2016 - USA Today announced today their American Insurance All-USA Boys Lacrosse Team featuring the top high school players for the 2016 season and three Section Five players were named to the list. Full Story

Ierlan (Victor), midfielder Ryan Maloney (Victor) and midfielder Jamie Trimboli (Victor) were named US Lacrosse All Americans from Monroe County.Senior LSM Jack Callahan (Victor), Irondequoit senior midfielder Trevor Carney and senior attackman Dan Doktor, senior attackman Jack Kauffman (Pittsford), senior attackman Colin McElligott (Spencerport) and senior midfielder Joe Vasile (Webster Thomas) were selected as US Lacrosse All-Academics. The "Midfielder of the Year" was Thomas Knapp from Wayne. The "Attackman of the Year" was Jon Ecker from Wayne and Wayne Head Coach Eric Carlsen was named Coach of the Year. Mike Denely from Bloomfield-Honeoye was named Assistant Coach of the Year and Mark Crane from Mark`s Pizzeria was named Man of the Year. Full Story

*+As they have done several times in the last few weeks, The Victor Blue Devils came from behind to win their second straight New York State Championship, with a 7-5 win over Ward Melville (Section 11) at Middletown High School this afternoon. Full Story

SPORTSFIVE REPORT: This was one of those games where the winners just were better. Cold Spring Harbor played excellent lacrosse on both send of the field. The Seahawks were aggressive on defense, often doubling the ball and recording numerous takes. Full Story

*+After a broken Cazenovia clear, Austin Fingar moved the ball up field in transition and at the left crease found senior attackman Craig Gerhardt who then sent the ball cross-crease to senior Tate Stewart who, in overtime, scored his first of the game and gave the Mustangs a trip to the Championships in Middletown. There is not much to say about the Victor Blue Devil win tonight as they cruised past Corning in the semifinal Class A game at Bragman Stadium (CN-S High School). Victor face off specialist won his first eleven face offs in the first half (and finished with 17 of 18) to give the Blue Devils almost exclusive ball time. With a very patient opening offense the players moved the ball from every direction, while scoring four unanswered goals in the first quarter and ending the half up 9-1. Full Story

The Red Rams started off with the first three goals against Webster Thomas, but the Titans came back with the next three goals to tie the game early in the second quarter. Travis Ford (4-2) scored with 3:55 left in the half to give Thomas their first lead of the game (5-4). The Red Rams used the last three minutes of the half to scored two goals and go to the break, up 6-5. Full Story

Penn Yan needed overtime for their trip to the Championships, and Victor has periods of running time in their win over Corning. Webster Thomas had a close first half with Jamesville-DeWitt, but finished their exciting season at CN-S today. Full Story

The Rochester Chapter of USLacrosse has announced the 2016 Herb Fitch Lacrosse All Star Game player selections. This year`s contest, featuring some of the best of the graduating seniors will be held on Friday, June 17th at Victor High School. The boys` game will start at 7:00 PM after the girls` play at 5:00 PM. Full Story

The Penn Yan Mustangs scored the first goal and never lost the lead as they defeated the Akron Tigers 17-6 in the Western Regionals in Buffalo. Penn Yan led 4-1 after the first quarter and then scored seven more to enter the half-time break up 11-3. Slowing the pace a bit in the third they led 14-5 before finishing the game at 17-6. It was the second meeting of the Victor Blue Devils and the Orchard Park Quakers this year and the result was the same as the Blue Devils defeated the powerful Section VI Class A Quakers 17-7 in the Western Regionals in Buffalo today. The first game (on April 30th) saw Victor winning 19-5. Full Story

Webster Thomas played a closed game with the previously undefeated Hamburg Bulldogs and came out on top with a 12-10 scored at All High Stadium in Buffalo (Section VI). Full Story

All three Section Five teams won their Western Regional games today and will advance to the semi final round in Syracuse (CNS) on Wednesday. Full Story

In the third quarter of the Class C finals Penn Yan proved why they have won 21 Section Five Titles. This year was their sixth in a row and 18th in the last 19 years. Aquinas led for the entire first half, but the Mustangs came back with five goals on heir way to a 9-7 win. Full Story

Top seeded Penn Yan scored nearly all their goals in a set of two runs to defeat third seeded Aquinas 9-7. The Little Irish played the first half extremely well and led 3-0 and 4-1 before the Mustangs began to get their feet under them. Full Story

The All Tournament Teams for 2016 were announced at each final. MVPs for A, B and C were Ryan Maloney (Victor), Nick Mabe (Thomas) and Ben Emerson (Penn Yan). Players were selected on the basis of their performances in the Section Five Tournaments. Full Story
