Many Mismatches Today, and Hilton Takes Out Fairport |

Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: There were fourteen games played today and most were mismatches. Of the rest, Hilton, for the first time in program history, beat Fairport 9-8, despite a last quarter surge by the Red Raiders. The Cadets led 4-3 at the half and then scored five goals in the third to end the quarter up 9-4. The offense of Hilton was spread between eight players with Matthews Mojsej leading with 1g-2a. Ben Metrano, Brenden Howell and Michael Galante each added two goals while Clayton Duford recorded 9s (53%) for Hilton (8-3). Klay Stuvert and Colin Peers each had 3g-2 for Faiport (8-2) Full Story |

Friday: DAY IN REVIEW: For the third time this season the Penn Yan Mustangs lost a game win a single goal. Tonight the Mustangs fell to Westhill (Syracuse) 5-4. After a 2-2 first quarter Penn Yan scored the only goal in the the second, but gave up two goals in the third (while scoring one) to tie at the end of three quarters. Westhill (10-3) scored the only goal in the last quarter. Four different players each scored two pints for Westhill. Fairport Gives JD First Loss of the Season |

Fairport defeated JD for the second straight season with a 10-9 win in the first overtime period. Colin Peers scored his third goal of the night to give the Red Raiders the victory. Over the past eleven years, JD and Fairport have faced off once a year. The Rams were on a five year streak before the Red Raiders defeated them last year 14-12. Overall, JD still leads the series 7-4. This season, the Rams came into the game undefeated at 10-0. They had two close one goal wins over West Genesee (8-7) and ESM (11-10). With three minutes remaining in regulation, JD led by three 9-6 and were looking strong to keep up their undefeated season. Canandaigua came back in the last quarter in a 11-10 come from behind win against Hilton. The Braves trailed for the entire contest prior to their final goal with 5:24 left on the clock. The Cadets, who led by 3 early in the game, could not tie the game for the sixth time in the final minutes. The scoring for Hilton was spread out with six players scoring a single goal and the leading scorer (Ryan Butts) finished with 2g-2a. For the Braves, Mark Belles led with 4g-1a. Brighton Wins in Overtime Again |

Brighton fought back from a two goal deficit at the end of the third quarter to defeat Pittsford in overtime 10-9. The Barons and Panthers played a back and forth game with both teams leading before Pittsford took a two goal lead at the end of the third quarter. Brighton’s defense held the Panthers scoreless for the final 13 minutes of regulation and another 3 minutes in overtime. Full Story |

Hilton was a 13-3 winner over Williamsville East with ten players making the offensive book, led by Zach Boyatizies, Michael Galante, Tyler Hacker and Ben Mitrano who each scored three points. After trailing for nearly the entire game, Irondequoit came back to take their first lead early in the fourth quarter. The Eagles won in the first overtime period 9-8 over McQuaid Jesuit. Marcus Whitman Holds Strong in OT |

Marcus Whitman held off a late push by Bloomfield-Honeoye to defeat the Pride 12-11 in the first overtime period. The Wildcats had a six goals stretch to the end the third and start the fourth quarter. The streak took them to a three goal lead with just under six minutes remaining in regulation. After four lead changes, Waterloo scored the final three goals to defeat Newark 10-8. The Reds held the lead with 2:16 left in the third quarter before being held scoreless by the Indian’s defense for the final 14 minutes. Greece Holds Off Late HFL Push with OT Win |

Greece Storm fought off the late push by HFL to defeat the Cougars 10-9 in the first overtime period. Greece led by four with ten minutes left in regulation. HFL scored four goals to force overtime. However, Matthew McHale scored for the Storm with 0:54 left in the first overtime period. The Storm controlled the entire game, and although HFL tied the game twice (1-1 and 9-9), Greece never trailed. Marcus Whitman defeated B-H on Tuesday 12-11 in the first overtime period (HERE) and tonight they did it again, this time defeating Mynderse 12-11 in the first overtime period. Tonight, they fought back with the final two goals of regulation to force overtime. The Blue Devils held a four goal lead late in the third before Marcus Whitman started a 5 out of 6 goal stretch to tie the game at 9-9 halfway through the fourth. Spencerport Scores Last Four to Win by One |

Spencerport only led for just under two minutes during their 10-9 win over Churchville-Chili tonight in the opening round of the Class B Tournament. The eighth seeded Rangers played the ninth seeded Saints for the second time this season. Their last matchup was less than a week ago with Spencerport winning that game 12-6. Tonight, the Saints played a much stronger game and led for the majority; including a three goal lead halfway through the fourth quarter that Spencerport fought back against. Full Story |

In the only break of the night, fifth seeded Penfield defeated 4th seeded Greece Storm in overtime 10-9. The Patriots took off in the first half and led by six at one point before Greece fought back to a pair of ties in the fourth quarter. Although the Storm did not ever take the lead, they sent the game into overtime with a goal at 0:21 remaining in regulation. Penfield was the exception where is took overtime for the Patriots to earn their place in the final four on Friday where they will play Fairport. Pittsford will play Hilton after beating East United. Thomas won another low scoring game with a 5-4 win over McQuaid Jesuit. The Titans (5th seed) defeated Knights (4th seed) with a slow methodical pacing to the game. Throughout the contest, both teams were slow to go to the cage. They took their time before capitalizing and that led to a mostly back and forth contest. Top seeded Fairport came out and strong and finished even stronger in their 11-6 win over fifth seeded Penfield. The Red Raiders came into tonight's contest looking for revenge from last season's 9-8 loss in the Championship matchup. The Patriots led that game for nearly the entire contest and held off a late advance by the Red Raiders. Canandaigua Heads to Finals for First Time Since 2017 |

In the first quarter, the scoring was limited with Thomas adding the lone goal. Ryan Prine scored off a dodge along the right side to near the crease. He finished into the net to put the Titans up with 4:31 remaining. The Titans held that lead into the end of the quarter (1-0). In the second quarter, Canandaigua added all the goals while holding Thomas scoreless. There were three goals for the Braves. The first two began with drives from behind the cage. Tyler Goode drove from behind and after the slide, dropped the ball off to Aaron D’Agostino for a cross crease goal. Two minutes later, they scored on another drive from behind. This time, Mark Belles drove from behind and finished himself to give the Braves their first lead of the game. The third goal came only 20 seconds later. After a technical face-off win, the Braves quickly pushed the ball upfield and Casey Herod fed the ball to Dom Comella for the goal. Canandaigua held the 3-1 lead going into halftime. In the other Class D game, held at HF-L, Penn Yan held Midlakes to a single goal to punch their ticket to the championship. The Panthers were slowly plodding throughout the contest and added a few goals in each quarter. Midfielder Sam Miller was named the Class C All Tournament MVP after a 3g-3a day (60% of all goals). Additionally, goalie Brandon Wayne finished with an exceptional day, recording 13 saves. Of those, 10 came in the first half while holding the Eagles scoreless during that period. After losses in the Championship games to Penfield (9-8) last season and Pittsford (9-5) two years ago, the Red Raiders were bent on getting their first Section Five Title since 2014. Fairport scored five goals in the second half while holding the Hilton offense scoreless to defeat the Cadets 9-4. Key players in the success were face-off midfielder Jake Knapp and sophomore midfielder Rob Crowley. Crowley finished with 4g on the night and Knapp finished at 8/13 at the face-off. Both were named to the All Tournament Team for Fairport. Knapp’s success was even more impressive based on Hilton face-off midfielder Shawn Doran’s season. Doran finished the season at 82% with 306 wins. Before tonight, he had never had less than 50% day at the faceoff. The Penfield team earned the Class A Sportsmanship Award from the Genesee Valley Lacrosse Officials Association. The Steven R. Penn Yan came back in overtime to defeat Pal-Mac 10-9 to win their 24th Sectional Title. The Mustangs trailed early in the contest before taking a one goal lead into the break. They held that lead into the fourth, when Pal-Mac scored the final two goals of regulation to force overtime. The Red Raiders had the first overtime offensive opportunity after winning the draw; however, they could not get a shot off on cage before Penn Yan got the ball upfield on an errant pass. Victor secured their sixth straight Section Five Title with two goals in the final sixty seconds. The Braves had taken a two goals lead with less than six minutes remaining and held on to a one goal lead with 1:00 left on the clock. The Blue Devils never gave up and defeated Canandaigua 7-6 in regulation. The game was a defensive battle with both goalies coming up strong. The All Star list is out recognizing the Monroe County League players for the 2019 season. Senior defenseman Sutton Boland (Victor), senior attackman Jack Brennan (Irondequoit) and senior face off midfielder Shawn Fingar (Hilton) were named US Lacrosse All Americans from Monroe County. Full Story |

2019 All Tournament Teams |

The All Tournament Teams for 2018 were announced at each final on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Most Valuable Player in Class A was Colin Peers (Fairport), in Class C, Sam Miller (Geneva), in Class D, Connor Fingar (Penn Yan) and in Class B, Jack LaRue (Victor). Players were selected on the basis of their performances in the Section Five Tournaments. Full Story |
