McQuaid Jesuit defeated Rush-Henrietta 14-5 in a non-league game, with John Burrows scoring four goals and AJ Quagrello providing six assists. Goalie Jack Rawleigh had an 83% save rate with 10 stops. Watkins Glen won a close non-league game against Haverling, securing a 14-12 victory. The teams were tied after two quarters before Watkins Glen pulled ahead in the third and held onto their lead. Haverling was led by Noah Schneider with five goals and one assist, while junior goalie McLane Stermole made 16 saves with a 53% save percentage. Watkins Glen’s leading scorers were Finn Schweizer with four goals, Nicholas D’Alleva with three goals and two assists, and Nicholas Ritter with three goals and one assist. Midlakes earned a 17-2 win against Marcus Whitman behind strong performances from leading scorers Nate Lathrop, James Sprague, and Carter Casper. Midlakes’ goalie Stuart Quku made eight saves with an 80% save rate. Marcus Whitman had goals from Ayden Clark and Fischer Sleeman, with Logan Storms adding an assist. May 8, 2025

Brockport earned a 12-0 win against East United-Eastridge on Thursday, with Mason Schram, Ryan Miller, and Tyler Davis each scoring three goals. James Newton recorded 21 saves without allowing a goal. Brockport will play Newark next, while East United-Eastridge faces Irondequoit. Full Story

Section V Boys Lacrosse Coordinator Mike Simon in conjunction with Geneva Club Beverages are sponsoring recognition of noteworthy performances throughout the season.

In our fifth group we have three seniors who have had noteworthy performances in the last week.

Offensive Players of the Week

Miles McGuire - Brighton Attackman

Miles McGuire had a standout week, scoring twelve goals across Brighton’s three victories over Churchville-Chili, Schroeder, and Corning. The senior attacker consistently found the back of the net, contributing to his team’s success while adding to his impressive career totals of 77 goals and 40 assists. With his commitment to play at St. Michael's College, McGuire continues to prove he’s ready for the next level.

Head Coach Josh Laskowski says "Miles is one of our senior captains and showcases his offensive prowess every day in practice which then translates to the games. He is a threat from anywhere on the field; whether he’s dodging or stepping down he has a knack for finding the back of the net. In addition to his shooting and passing ability, Miles is a gritty player who rides hard and is a ground ball magnet which wins us extra possessions throughout the game."

Jayden Mandarano - Spencerport Attackman

Jayden Mandarano is a three-year varsity player who scored an overtime game-winner to lift Spencerport over Fairport, 7-6 last week. His offensive impact was evident all week, recording six goals and eight assists, including a 4-goal effort against Irondequoit and a 6-assist showing against Gates Chili. With a career total of 76 goals and 59 assists, Mandarano continues to be a key playmaker for Spencerport.

Spencerport Head Coach Bill Buttaro says, “Jayden has been starting for us for three years and since the moment he stepped on the field has had one of the highest lacrosse IQs on the team. He isn't flashy, he isn't the biggest, but his skills and ability to diagnose a defense allows us to play the way we play on offense. He is an extension of our staff on the field and is always looking to put his teammates in a position to be successful.”

Defensive Players of the Week

Sven Habitzreuther - Irondequoit Goalie

Sven Habitzreuther is a seasoned senior who was a brick wall in the Eagles' two hard-fought victories last week, racking up an impressive 29 saves across both games. His standout showing against Pittsford, where he stopped 77.78% of shots on goal, showcased his ability to rise to the occasion when it mattered most. With 331 career saves and a reputation for shutting down even the fiercest offensive attacks, Sven continues to build on his legacy as a four-year Varsity standout. Having already earned Class B All Tournament and First Team All-County honors last season, he's proving once again why he's a cornerstone of Irondequoit’s success.

Head Coach Aaron Bottazzo says, “He's been the anchor of our defense; he's battled through the ups and downs of the season, and he's played at a high level and is a leader for the team. Our defense gains confidence knowing that he is back there. Sven comes to work every day, always looking to improve. He's not only a great player for our team, but he's also an even better person in the program and community. It's a pleasure to coach him.”

Bishop Kearney Over Batavia-Notre Dame

May 7, 2025

Bishop Kearney secured a strong victory over Batavia-Notre Dame in a non-league matchup at VanDetta Stadium. Kearney set the tone early with nine goals in the first quarter and carried their momentum through the rest of the game, finishing with a final score of 14-2. Junior James Scantleburry led the offensive charge with three goals and six assists, while Dom Slevin also contributed three goals. Trever Jensen and Jeremy Lowe added two goals each, and Dub Eunice recorded his first Varsity goal. Freshman goalie Ethan Cole made 14 saves on 16 shots, achieving an 88% save percentage across 48 minutes.

Batavia-Notre Dame found the net twice in the third quarter with contributions from Harold Mellander and Trey Rodriguez. Mellander also recorded an assist, while Gavynn Trippany provided another helper. Despite the offensive push, Batavia-Notre Dame faced a tough challenge against Bishop Kearney’s well-balanced scoring and possession game. In goal, Branden Flanagan tallied 10 saves on 14 shots in the full 48-minute contest.

Tuesday – Thrilling Battles and Milestone Moments

DAY IN REVIEW: TUESDAY - Brighton edged out Thomas 13-11 in the day’s closest contest, while standout performances and career milestones defined the action across the 15 games played. Akron at AQ Sam Underhill became Newark’s all-time leading scorer with a nine-goal performance, Jake Olbrich hit 100 career assists for Aquinas, and Geneva extended their winning streak to five. Victor, Penfield, and Fairport secured key wins, while Canandaigua remained undefeated with a dominant 19-0 victory.

LIVONIA-AVON-GENESEO-9 at BLOOMFIELD-HONEOYE-15 - [UPDATED] Bloomfield-Honeoye defeated Livonia-Avon-Geneseo 15-9 in an FL-D1 league matchup. John Blair led with four goals and six assists, while Tyler Bruder added five goals. Blair set a new school record for both points and assists. Goaltender Ethan Stoddard recorded eight saves. GREECE STORM-10 at EAST UNITED-EASTRIDGE-4- Greece Storm earned a 10-4 win over East United-Eastridge, led by Carter Fabian’s three goals. Mitchell Barnes recorded nine saves with an 82% save rate in goal. Greece Storm remains undefeated against Akron at AQ East United-Eastridge in their series history, improving to 3-10 for the season. AKRON-4 at AQUINAS-11 - Aquinas secured an 11-4 win against Akron, breaking a 4-4 tie at halftime with five third-quarter goals. Leading Aquinas scorers included Jake Guggino with four goals and Noah Olbrich with three goals and one assist. Olbrich also reached his 100th career assist. VICTOR-14 at IRONDEQUOIT-9 - Victor defeated Irondequoit 14-9 in their MC-D2 league matchup, extending their winning streak against Irondequoit to sixteen games. CANANDAIGUA-19 at BROCKPORT-0 - Canandaigua defeated Brockport 19-0, improving to 11-0 on the season. Thirteen players scored, with Drew Williamee leading with four goals.
