Victor came to live in the fourth quarter and scored five unanswered to defeat Hamburg 8-4. The Bulldogs played a tight three quarters before the Blue Devils became too much for them in the final 12 minutes. Hamburg played a strong 36 minutes and forced Victor to deal with them on the offensive and defensive side of the field. They led until Victor’s second goal of the fourth (9:34 remaining). The Blue Devil offense had problems getting going. They led in shots 27-19 on the game, but had trouble putting their early shots on the cage. Scoring was mostly spread out with junior attackman Joey Pezzimenti leading for Victor with 3g-1a. Goalie Liam Haller recorded 10 saves (71%). Full Story |
East Aurora Wins First NYS Tournament Game in School History |

After winning their first Sectional Title in school history, East Aurora can now add their first NYS Tournament win to their list of achievements. East Aurora fought back from a 4-0 deficit to defeat Geneva 8-6. The Blue Devils scored 7 of the last 8 goals to secure the victory. They held the Panthers scoreless for 21 minutes spanning the second, third and fourth quarters. The Blue Devils were led in scoring by Drew Kenney with 4a. Jack Rogers was the only other Blue Devil to score more than one point (2g). Geneva goalie Brandon Wayne finished with 11 saves in the contest, including six in the final quarter. Full Story |
Penn Yan Advances to Face LaFayette |

Penn Yan came back from an early deficit to defeat Eden 8-5. Earlier in the season, the Mustangs won the matchup 14-0. Eden, who led 3-1 early in the game, played strong for four quarters and kept the game within one for much of the second half. This was the first time that Eden had advanced to the State Tournament. The Raiders were led in scoring by Sawyer Schiedel (1g-1a), Zach Smalling (1g-1a) and Quinn Harrington (1g-1a) with two points each. In the cage for Eden, Zach DeCarolis finished with 19 saves. Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW: Section Five teams won three out of four today at St. John Fisher College, where the Western Regionals took place. Fairport narrowly defeated Orchard Park, 5-1 in the Class A game. Victor then followed in the Class B game where, after coming alive in the last quarter, won their game with Hamburg, 8-4. After winning their first Sectional Title in school history, East Aurora can now add their first NYS Tournament win to their list of achievements. The All Tournament Teams for 2018 were announced at each final on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Most Valuable Player in Class A was Colin Peers (Fairport), in Class C, Sam Miller (Geneva), in Class D, Connor Fingar (Penn Yan) and in Class B, Jack LaRue (Victor). The Marcus Whitman team earned the Class D Sportsmanship Award from the Genesee Valley Lacrosse Officials Association. The Steven R. Penn Yan Secures 24th Win |

Penn Yan came back in overtime to defeat Pal-Mac 10-9 to win their 24th Sectional Title. The Mustangs trailed early in the contest before taking a one goal lead into the break. They held that lead into the fourth, when Pal-Mac scored the final two goals of regulation to force overtime. The Red Raiders had the first overtime offensive opportunity after winning the draw; however, they could not get a shot off on cage before Penn Yan got the ball upfield on an errant pass. The Mustangs scored with 0:05 left in the first overtime period with an inside dodge by Colton Smith. Smith was named to the All Tournament Team. Full Story |
Victor Wins their Sixth Straight Championship |

Victor secured their sixth straight Section Five Title with two goals in the final sixty seconds. The Braves had taken a two goals lead with less than six minutes remaining and held on to a one goal lead with 1:00 left on the clock. The Blue Devils never gave up and defeated Canandaigua 7-6 in regulation. The game was a defensive battle with both goalies coming up strong. Canandaigua’s Aiden Kenyon finished with 9 saves (7 in the first half) and Victor’s Liam Haller finished with 14 saves (including 5 in the fourth quarter). Wednesday: DAY IN REVIEW: All four Champions have been crowned and are ready to advance to the NYS Regionals (quarter finals) which will be held at St. John Fisher College on Saturday. The Class A game will see Fairport vs Orchard Park at 10:00 AM, The Class B Game will feature Victor vs Hamburg at 12:30, The Class C game with Geneva vs East Aurora will start at 3:00 PM and the Class D game will see Penn Yan vs Edan at 5:30PM. Geneva won their second back to back Class C Championship tonight against Wayne 10-1. The Panthers defeated the Eagles 13-2 last year. The Panthers were slowly plodding throughout the contest and added a few goals in each quarter. Midfielder Sam Miller was named the Class C All Tournament MVP after a 3g-3a day (60% of all goals). Additionally, goalie Brandon Wayne finished with an exceptional day, recording 13 saves. Of those, 10 came in the first half while holding the Eagles scoreless during that period. Fairport Wins First Title Since 2014 |

After losses in the Championship games to Penfield (9-8) last season and Pittsford (9-5) two years ago, the Red Raiders were bent on getting their first Section Five Title since 2014. Fairport scored five goals in the second half while holding the Hilton offense scoreless to defeat the Cadets 9-4. Key players in the success were face-off midfielder Jake Knapp and sophomore midfielder Rob Crowley. Crowley finished with 4g on the night and Knapp finished at 8/13 at the face-off. Both were named to the All Tournament Team for Fairport. Knapp’s success was even more impressive based on Hilton face-off midfielder Shawn Doran’s season. Doran finished the season at 82% with 306 wins. Before tonight, he had never had less than 50% day at the faceoff. Canandaigua Heads to Finals for First Time Since 2017 |

In the first quarter, the scoring was limited with Thomas adding the lone goal. Ryan Prine scored off a dodge along the right side to near the crease. He finished into the net to put the Titans up with 4:31 remaining. The Titans held that lead into the end of the quarter (1-0). In the second quarter, Canandaigua added all the goals while holding Thomas scoreless. There were three goals for the Braves. The first two began with drives from behind the cage. Tyler Goode drove from behind and after the slide, dropped the ball off to Aaron D’Agostino for a cross crease goal. Two minutes later, they scored on another drive from behind. This time, Mark Belles drove from behind and finished himself to give the Braves their first lead of the game. The third goal came only 20 seconds later. After a technical face-off win, the Braves quickly pushed the ball upfield and Casey Herod fed the ball to Dom Comella for the goal. Canandaigua held the 3-1 lead going into halftime. Between a patient Thomas offense and a strong Canandaigua defense, the Titans only put one shot on the cage (the goal) in the entire first half. Full Story |
Victor Heads to Finals for Seventh Straight Year |

Second seeded Victor held off a late push by third seeded Brighton 10-9. The Blue Devils took control early and held it for a huge chunk of the game. They led by four goals with four minutes remaining in regulation. Brighton scored four goals in last four minutes (with Victor adding one of their own) to pull within one goal two different times. Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW: Both Class B and Class D played their semifinal games today and all four top seeded teams won. In Class D, Pal-Mac defeated Marcus Whitman after taking a 10-3 lead after the first quarter. They was no report from Pal-Mac at post time. In the other Class D game, held at HF-L, Penn Yan held Midlakes to a single goal to punch their ticket to the championship. Connor Finger led the Mustangs with 3g-4a while Griffin Emerson made 8s (89%) for the Mustanges. There was not report from Midlakes at post time. Full Story |
