With great sadness, the community was informed yesterday of the tragic death of Brighton graduate Owen Thomas. The three year Varsity player for the Barons, who was graduated this spring, died in a boating accident on Waneta Lake, according to the Shuyler County Sherriff's Office. Full Story |

All Greater Rochester 2017 |

The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle announced their 2017 All-Greater Rochester Lacrosse team today. The list features the top sixteen players and a number of honorable mentions were led by Canandaigua senior Attackman, Devin Andrews who was named "Player of the Year". Andrews, who was also a US Lacrosse All-American, scored 72 goals and 47 assists this year. The SportsFive Offensive Player of the Year plans to study and play at Stony Brook next year. Full Story |

Class D State Title - CBA over Westlake |

The Christian Brothers Academy took an early three goal lead and never trailed in their 12-5 win over Westlake to secure their first ever State Title and the first ever Class D Title. The Brother’s Alex Calkins led with 4g-1a and was named tournament MVP. Defensive Player of the tournament was awarded to Peyton Bowler. Although Westlake fought back hard in the first quarter, the Brothers continued their pressure and increased their lead all the way through the final quarter. Full Story |
Class C State Title - CSH over JD |

Today’s contest saw the defending Class B Champions (Jamesville Dewitt) playing the defending Class C Champions (Cold Spring Harbor) and CSH followed Victor in winning their third consecutive State Championship. The Seahawks completed an undefeated season at 21-0 when they defeated JD 11-9 after coming back from a 5-1 deficit in the second quarter and an 8-6 deficit in the fourth quarter. Class B State Title - Victor over Yorktown |

Victor won their third straight State Title with a 9-3 win over Yorktown. The Blue Devils trailed briefly after Yorktown scored the opening goal. However, they responded with seven goals and controlled the pace of the entire game. The Huskers added two goals in the third, but they never came back within range. The Blue Devils were led in scoring by Class B Offensive MVP Alexander Mabbett with 2g-2a. Matt Gardner was named Defensive Player of the Game. Full Story |
Class A State Title - Ward Melville over Pittsford |

After trailing by five with 4:26 remaining, Ward Melville scored the final six goals of the game to win the Class A State Championship 10-9 in the first overtime period. Tournament MVP Eddie Munoz scored three of the five goals to force overtime and was a key offensive player for the Patriots. Defensive MVP Michael Giaquinto was also demonstrative in the win. He finished 19/22 (86%) at the face off and gave Ward Melville multiple extra attempts at the ball. His pick-ups allowed four goals in the final 1:01. Matthew Grillo finished with 3g-1a including the game tying and game winning goals. Later in the day, the Pittsford girls also played in the State Finals. DAY IN REVIEW: For the third year in a row, The Victor Blue Devils won a New York State Championship. Pittsford lost as Ward Meleville overcame a five deficit in the last four minutes of the game to force the game into overtime where Matthew Grillo scored the winnning goal for the Patriots. In the class C game, Cold Springs Harbor overcame a XX deficit and beat Jamesville DeWitt 11-9. In the first ever Class D game, Christian Brothers Academy defeated Westlake with a score of 12-5. Pittsford Makes State Finals for First Time |

Pittsford dominated the second half and defeated Baldwinsville (Section III) 11-8 to advance to the Class A State Finals. The Panthers will face Ward Melville on Saturday at 10:00 AM at St. John Fisher. The Patriots defeated Lakeland-Panas 9-6 to advance to the Finals. Victor Looks for Third Straight State Title |

Victor advanced to their third straight State Finals with an 11-5 win over Vestal (Section IV). The Blue Devils are the two-time defending State Champions and are looking for their third straight win. Victor will face Yorktown (Section I). The Huskers defeated Garden City 5-4 in double overtime to advance. Yorktown also returns to the State Finals (they lost 9-6 to JD last season). Looking Ahead: Upstate Championships |

At this point only the final four are left and in each class there are two teams in the Upstate Tournaments and two are in the Downstate Tournaments. As Wednesday is a school day, the games have been split with the Class A and Class B games being played in Rochester (St. John Fisher College) and the Class C and Class D being played in Syracuse (CNS). Downstate , Class B and Class B will be played at SUNY Albany and the Class C and Class D games will be played at Adelphi University. Section Five representative Pittsford defeated Section Six representative Orchard Park 20-6 in the Western Regional Championship. The Panthers scored the first seven goals of the match and held the Quakers scoreless for the first 18:49. Pittsford finished with 13 different players making their offensive book. Section Five representative Palmyra-Macedon defeated Section Six representative Grand Island 8-6 in the Western Regional Championship. The Red Raiders trailed for a significant portion of the game before mounting a four goal comeback in the final quarter. Pal-Mac held the Vikings scoreless for the final 13 minutes.
