DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - There were quarterfinal games played today in the NYSPHSAA Lacrosse Tournaments and Section V teams won each game.

MCQUAID JESUIT-13 vs ORCHARD PARK-6 - In the Class A game, held in Section VI at Williamsville East High School, Vincenzo Giangreco (1g-4a), scored just twelve second into the game on a feed from John Harding (3g-1a).  After goals by Will Engle (1g) and Harding, the Quakers scored their first goal, at 4:12 when senior midfielder Mike Pietrantoni ripped a long shot from front center. McQuaid scored four more goals in less than a minute and a half and led at the end of the quarter 7-1. The Knights saw more than an equal share as the result of faceoffs by JP Giaqnforti (1g) and Domenic Giangreco (1a) who both recorded 7+/4- (64%).

After Will DeMarco (2g-3g) scored on a pass from AJ Quagrello (3g-1a), Orchard Park scored their second goal on a drive from behind the cage by junior attackman Justin Relosky. The Quakers scored once more, with 22 seconds in the half as Logan Warn found Luke Danna on the wing and the half ended with the Knights up 8-3.

Dana scored again of OP at the top of the third on a feed from Owen Wright and a strong, outside sidearm shot taking the scored to 8-4, but shortly thereafter, McQuaid returned with three goals to end the quarter up 11-4. Both teams scored two goals in the last quarter. The knights now move on the NYS semifinals at SUNY Cortland on Wednesday where they will play Liverpool (Section III) at 4:00 PM. senior midfielder Liam Palmer (2g) also scored for McQuaid Jesuit (18-2). VICTOR-16 vs NIAGARA-WHEATFIELD-4 - Although the Falcons (11-7) scored the first goal in the game , the Blue Devils scored three before Niagara-Wheatfield scored again. The quarter saw Victor up 4-2 and then scored thirteen unanswered goals spanning the into the fourth quarter when they began running time. Victor will play Vestal (Section IV) at 5:30 on Wednesday. Senior midfielder Aiden Clinkscales (2g-2a) reached his 50th career goal and junior midfielder Mason Debottis (1g) scored his first Varsity goal in the game. Others scoring for Victor (17-3) were Jack Herendeen (4a), Christian Besaw (4g), Jackson Mead (4g), Brody Secker (3g-1a), Tanner Radogna (1g-1a), and Dante Pezzimenti (1a). Facing off for Victor was junior JT Ricci with 10+/2- = 83%, and 8th grade Eli Ricci with 8+/0- = 100%. In the goal for Victor was senior Parker Erwin with 3s/2ga = 60% (36 mins), and junior Landon Tantillo with 4s/0ga = 100% (7 mins). AQUINAS-18 vs CHENANGO VALLEY-6 - Aquinas whose seven seniors had graduation ceremonies in the morning, went right to work ending the first quarter up 6-1 and then added another six goals to lead at the half 12-3. Junior attackman Noah Olbrich (2g) reached his 150th career goal in the game. Others making the offensive book for Aquinas (16-5) include Tano Auriuso (5g-3a), Jake Guggino (4g),Dom Siesto (2a), Ethan Copeland (2g), Gio Valerie, and Carter Wegman (3g). In the goal for Aquinas was sophomore Jake Gibson with 7s/6ga = 54% (48 mins).Next up for Aquinas is the semifinal round at SUNY Cortland at 3:00 where they will play Marcellus (Section III). HFL-15 at JOHNSON CITY-4 - Nine different players scored goals for HFL including Quinn Kailbourne (1g-5a) reached his 50th career assist. The Cougars held the Wildcats scoreless in the first half while scoring fourteen of their own. The second half started in running time, but the Cougars scored only one more goal, while the Wildcats scored four. Others scoring for HFL (19-2) were Chase Perryman (2g-5a), Grady Goodberlet (4g-1a),Mathew Brassie (1g), Patrick Donahoe (1g), Owen Smith (3g), Marco Vengoechea (1g-1a), Alex Steinhoff (1a), and Madut Mathuc (1g). Facing off for HFL was Ben Cook with 2+/1- = 67%, and Carsen Montone with 13+/7- = 65% and in the goal freshman Jason Bennett recorded 4s/0ga = 100% (24 mins) including his 100th career save.HFL will take on Jamesville-DeWitt in the semifinal round at SUNY Cortland (6:30 PM). The Head Coaches of Section V considered players who had been nominated for All-American and All-Academic awards. The awards identify some of the best players from each area around the country. Each of the head coaches in the Section is allowed to vote on each of the awards. The selections from our area were then submitted to the USA Lacrosse for final approval.

The All-American awards are given to excellent lacrosse players from the area. The national program allows one award for each six teams in the area but this year there were six awards available. Twenty-two players were nominated. Section Five coaches require that players who are in leagues must make first team league honors in order to be considered.

For the All-Academic award, an emphasis has been placed on the academic qualification of the nominees, but players were required to be assets for their teams. Where, in the past, nominees for this award were first considered for their skill on this field, this year, although skill was considered important, nominees did not need to be "All-American" quality players. Academically, nominees needed to have an average GPA of 3.7 (on a 4.0 scale). There were also six awards available in Section V and there were fifteen nominees. Some players were nominated for both awards and in the end five were selected.

The Head Coaches also selected a USA Lacrosse Coach of the Year for NYS Section V. This year the coaches selected John Schembri, who has been the Head Coach at Penfield since 2009. The Patriots were 12-7 this year and advanced to the Sectional Finals. They have been to the finals five times under Coach Schembri and have won twice.

In 2012, USA Lacrosse added an award named for the long-time Johns Hopkins lacrosse coach and Athletic Director, Bob Scott. The annual award is given to a senior of outstanding character, good academic standing and one who demonstrates good sportsmanship and safe play. The winner from Section V, this year, is Penfield senior Adam Schembri.

His father, Head Coach, John Schembri says, "Adam has played with the top level of club and select team players in both Lacrosse and Football. Above is a list of those accomplishments, however, beyond accolades I could not be prouder of the way he conducts himself on the field, within the school and in our community.

• Drew Angelo- Honeoye Falls-Lima senior face-off midfielder - Syracuse
  Head Coach Eric Goodberlet says: "Drew is the most motivated, hardest working player I have coached from the standpoint that his success didn't come easy to him. I have had the pleasure of witnessing his dedication to work and focus on his craft since 4th grade in order to get to where he is today. Through his commitment to improve, his intense work ethic, and year round training, he has developed into a dominant Section V face-off specialist with over 1,000 face-off wins." 
  
  
• Jonathan Bucciarelli - Greece Storm senior goalie - Jacksonville
  Head Coach Shane Cole says: "Jonathan is a great teammate and an even better student and person. He cares about his team`s success and he puts in the extra time everyday to get better. He is a third-year captain who leads by example and sets the tempo for the team. His lacrosse stats consist of 61 saves and 49 goals against in 2021 (56%), 257 saves and 206 goals against in 2022 (56 %), 227 saves and 145 goals against in 2023 (61%). He is currently at 188 saves and 104 goals against this 2024 season. He has reached a career milestone of over 700 career saves (733)." 
  
  
• Jonah Carrier - Irondequoit senior face-off midfielder - Maryland
  Head Coach Aaron Bottazzo says: "Jonah has been playing at a high level on varsity for the past four seasons. Jonah is one of the top face off men as well as one of the top offensive players on the field at any given time. His skill set is uncommon and comes around once in a great while. He is an exceptional player and an even better person who has taken huge steps as a leader and in his maturity over the past four seasons. I can't think of a more deserving All-American candidate than Jonah Carrier." 
  
  
• Jack Herendeen - Victor senior attackman - Cornell
  Head Coach Dan Stone says: "Jack is truly an ambassador of the game, not only within the Victor community, but everywhere the game has taken him. It begins close to home as he maintained high honor roll achievements while participating in athletics and a variety of trainings to improve his skill set and physical attributes, maintaining family obligations, and being a mentor and example for peers and those younger than him. Jack is well-known on and off the field and treats everyone with kindness, care, and compassion, and a humble demeanor. Over the course of his four-year Varsity career, Jack has been exceptional in a variety of ways. As a freshman in 2021 who was pulled up late in the season, he accounted for 16% of our offensive production. As a sophomore, his contributions made up 30% of the season's offensive production. In 2023, Jack was responsible for 28% of the team's offensive production. For his senior campaign, Jack was given a monumental task of doing even more for the team in the wake of graduating 21 seniors from the year before. Jack has saved his best for last, having produced 32% of our offense in 2024." 
  
  
• Keagan Hoesterey - Pal-Mac senior attack/midfielder - Uncommitted
  Head Coach Joe Hill says: "Keagan is the leading scorer in Section V this season, demonstrating his exceptional skill and dedication on the field. His impressive assist total reflects his commitment to mentoring our younger players and teaching them to play the game the right way. Keagan was thrilled to learn that many of the talented young players on our team would be playing varsity this year, and his ability to seamlessly integrate with our lineup, which includes four freshmen and an eighth grader in the starting lineup, is remarkable."
  
  
• Chase Perryman - Honeoye Falls senior attackman - St. Bonaventure
  Head Coach Eric Goodberlet says: "Chase Perryman is a natural born competitor. He displays gratitude for the game, the opponents, his teammates, his coaches and his community. He carries himself with dignity and honor. He relishes competition and looks forward to the challenge of facing the best defenders on opposing teams. His calm composure strengthens the faith his teammates have in him. He has the ability to reassure his teammates in high pressure situations and can reclaim control of a game. Only very special people can do this. His selflessness can be seen in each and every one of his assists. Chase Perryman has been a cornerstone in the growing success of the HFL lacrosse program."
  
  

• Jeremy Askin - Geneva senior midfielder - St. Bonaventure
  Head Coach Jeff Dunham says: "Jeremy is a great lacrosse player and an excellent young man. Jeremy holds down a 97% average while taking a variety of advanced, college level courses. He is also a devoted member of several school clubs and organizations, including the National Honor Society and Link Crew. He serves as a peer mentor to a number of freshmen at Geneva High School and is an active volunteer in our youth lacrosse program. Unlike many teams, we don`t have a viable #2 option at the position so Jeremy has taken over 95% of our faceoffs this year. In addition to his giant workload at the faceoff X, Jeremy is also one of our top scorers with 39 points so far this season. Jeremy is a tremendous all-around lacrosse player." 
  
  
• Ben Cook - Honeoye Falls-Lima senior defenseman - RIT
  Head Coach Eric Goodberlet says: "Ben Cook is responsible, fair, and caring. He is a great citizen and not only lives by compliance with laws, rules and regulations, he expects that of his teammates as well. His loyalty, commitment and work ethic are of the highest quality. On the field he is our best individual cover defender. He always guards the best attackman on the opposing team. He is our vocal leader on the field. He is always the first one in the locker room and the last one to leave. His lacrosse IQ and overall analysis of his opponent was and is an asset to our team. We have continued to get better and better this season, week by week with his leadership."
  
  
• Anthony DeRosa - Webster Schroeder senior midfielder - RIT
  Head Coach Don Manard says, "Anthony has been a two-year captain for the Schroeder lacrosse team as well as a captain in the football and basketball teams the last two seasons. Anthony is always helping out younger players develop as he put together a wall ball routine for the team to do prior to practice. A true leader not only in the class room but on the field. He is that guy who wants the ball when the game is on the line and will leave it all on the field until his tank is empty. He does the same in the classroom with 98 average and is graduating cum laude this spring. "
  
  
• Alex Garrow - Wayne senior midfielder - Nazareth
  Head Coach John Hanss says, "Alex is a tremendous young man. He is a natural born leader. He has excelled at the varsity level in multiple sports for his entire high school career, but most notably in lacrosse. As a very goal oriented young man, he strives to meet them but does not put himself over the team. This year, his senior season, he has seen one of his teammates reach and exceed the 100-goal mark. Close to the milestone himself, he has cheered for and supported his teammates but on the field he is looking to move the ball and assist on goals rather than trying to do to much in attempts to score goals for his own personal accolades."
  
  
• Cam Ryan - Victor senior defenseman - Syracuse
  Head Coach Dan Stone says, "Cam Ryan is a student-athlete any coach would welcome to his program. He is a three-sport team captain who has helped his team's achieve considerable success through his "We>Me" mentality. Cam is a three-time Sectional Champion (basketball 2x, lacrosse 1x) a State Finalist in lacrosse, and a State Champion in basketball. His efforts have earned him 2nd Team All-County honors in basketball and lacrosse, and First Team recognition in football, all with limited time through his junior and senior seasons. At this time next year Cam will be competing for the Syracuse Orange Men's Lacrosse team."
  
  
• Adam Schembri - Penfield senior midfielder - Mercyhurst
  Head Coach John Schembri says, "He truly is a special young man. As a coach you ask your players to leave the program better than when they arrived, and Adam has done that in every way possible while being a dominant force on the field. I have been blessed to have had the opportunity to coach a young man with the character, integrity, grit, tenacity and humility that he displays, and I am even more proud that I get to call him my son."

DAY IN REVIEW: WEDNESDAY - Section V went two for four in the Western Semifinals as McQuaid beat Liverpool 10-5 and Victor beat Vestal 17-6. Aquinas lost to a strong team from Marcellus and Jamesville-DeWitt defeated HFL.

MARCELLUS-15 at AQUINAS-8 - In the first game of the day at SUNY Cortland, Aquinas (16-6) played a very skilled Marcellus (Section III) team and lost 15-8. The Mustangs took a 4-1 lead in the first quarter and led 6-3 at the half, but the second half belonged to Marcellus as they scored nine second half goals while hold Aquinas to five. Sophomore midfielder Nick Rayfields owned the day, scoring seven goals and three assists for the 19-1 Mustangs who will move on to the finals where they will play Cold Spring Harbor, who defeated them in the finals last year. Scoring for Aquinas (16-6) were Tano Auriuso (4g-2a), Carter Wegman (2g), Jack Bell (1g) Noah Olbrich (1a) Dom Siesto (1a), and Jake Guggino (1g). LIVERPOOL-5 at MCQUAID JESUIT-10 - The Knights scored four unanswered goals in the first quarter and led 6-2 at the half. Leading the scoring for McQuaid Jesuit (19-2) were John Harding (3g-1a), Vincenzo Giangreco (2g), Dom Giangreco (1g), Benton Paladino (1a), Liam Palmer (1g), AJ Quagrello (2g), and JP Gianforti (1g). VICTOR-17 at VESTAL-6 - The Blue Devils scored the first thirteen goals in the game as they ended the undefeated season for Vestal (18-1). Seven different players scored in the win including junior attackman Dante Pezzimenti and freshman attackman Matthew Herendeen who both scored their first Varsity goal in the game. The game went to running time in the third quarter. Leading the scoring for Victor (18-3) were freshman attackman Jackson Mead (6g), senior attackman Jack Herendeen (5a), senior midfielder Aiden Clinkscales (3g-2a), and junior midfielder Brody Secker (2g-2a). Facing off for Victor was 8th grade Eli Ricci with 8+/2- = 80%. Ricci scored his 100th career faceoff win in the game. Victor senior goaltender Parker Erwin recorded 4s/1ga = 80% (34 mins). Scoring for Vestal were Michael Hogan (1g), Braden Mcmahon (1g-1a), Sammy Baek (2g), Xavier Shuler (1g), and Tucker Zostant (1g). JD-22 at HFL-7 - The game started out closely with JD taking a 4-3 first quarter lead, but then they exploded, scoring seven in the second, five in the third and six in the fourth quarters while holding the Cougars to four. Senior A/M Samuel Brazell led the Rams offense with (8g-3a). Scoring for HFL (19-3) were Marco Vengoechea (3g), Quinn Kailbourne (1g-1a), Owen Smith (1g), Patrick Donahoe (1g), Chase Perryman (1g-1a), and Drew Angelo (1a). The Rochester Chapter of USA Lacrosse recently announced the14th Annual Herb Fitch and Chris Barnes Lacrosse All Star Game player selections. This year's contest, featuring some of the best of the graduating seniors will be held on Thursday, June 15th at Victor High School. The boys' game will start at 8:00 PM and the girls' play at 6:00 PM.

"The Herb Fitch Lacrosse Senior All Star Games are in memoriam of Herbert T. Fitch who is a member of the Greater Rochester Hall of Fame as well as the US Lacrosse National Hall of Fame. Herb was involved in the game for over 45 years as a player, coach, and official. He was a standout at Geneva High School that went on to compete and excel at Hobart College from 1938-1942. As well as being an amazing contributor to the game he was also a business owner and the mayor of Penn Yan. Herb loved this great game and watching the growth through the dedication of young athletes such as the ones selected for the Senior All Star games." (Chapter announcement)

Chris Barnes was a teacher and coach in Webster. He started coaching the girls lacrosse at Schroeder in the late 1990s and then in 2003 started the program at Thomas. His team won a Section V title in 2006. After two years fighting colon cancer, he died at 52 in 2018.

The Genesee Valley Lacrosse Officials Association (GVLOA) provides officials for all of the the boys lacrosse teams in Section V and recently handed out their annual Steven R. Morgan Sportsmanship Awards to one team in each Class.

The award is given to a team that exemplifies sportsmanship at the coaches’ level, the players level, and the fans level.  Officials vote after every game by the officials at the game. Peter McCabe, newly elected President, made presentations for GVLOA.

The Class A award was given to Fairport and Head Coach Mike Torrelli. The Class B award was given to Gate Chili and Head Coach Cam Gormel. The Class C award was given to Batavia-Notre Dame and Head Coach Jim Dillon and the Class D award was given to Aquinas and Head Coach Tarry Corcoran and accepted by the team captains.

DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY - There were two games played on the last game of the season and at stake were NYS Championships. McQuaid Jesuit was an 8-7 overtime winner over Farmingdale (Section VIII). South Side (Section VIII) defeated Victor, also in overtime by a score of 12-11. 

FARMINGDALE-7 at MCQUAID JESUIT-8 in overtime in a NYS Championship game - After winning their first Sectional Title and entering their first NYS Championship, the Knights were considered by many as the underdogs to Farmingdale of Section VII who boast some exceptional individual players. 

McQuaid scored the first two goals as AJ Quagrello scored on passes from Jon Harding and Liam Palmer. Senior attackman Caden Lennon who is headed to Bryant next year scored for the Dalers and the first quarter ended at 2-1.

Star attackman, Brendan O`Keefe (Albany) had a big second quarter, scoring two unassisted goals and assisting on another. As the score went back and forth, McQuaid saw two goals from Vincenzo Giangreco (one with an assist from John Harding). The half ended in a 4-4 tie.

The Third quarter saw two unanswered goals from McQuaid, the first by Eoin Meyer from Harding on a feed to the crease, and the second on a bull dodge by JP Gianforti. After three quarters McQuaid led 6-4.

Will DiMarco driving from behind and then feeding to Harding gave the Knights another goal and a three point lead at 9:36. After that, the next three goals were from the Dalers. Cuinn Sunde received the ball on the crease from O`Keefe at 7:49 and less than minute later O~Keefe scored on a sweep. Farmingdale scored after picking the ball up in front of the crease to tie the game at 7-7. Both teams had an opportunity to score in regulation, but with saves by both Gordon and James Caputo, the teams remained tied, forcing overtime.

After shots by O`Keefe (one wide and one big save by Gordon), McQuaid moved the ball down field and with 0:27 left in overtime, sophomore face off midfielder Domenic Giangreco scored the game-winner to give the Knights their first State Championship. Scoring for McQuaid were John Harding (3a), Giangreco (3g), AJ Quagrello (2g), Will DiMarco (1g), Eoin Meyer (1g), JP Gianforti (1g). Will Gordon in the cage 12/7ga. (unofficial). Scoring for Farmingdale were Michael Aiello (3g-2a), Cole DiPietro (2g-1a), Liam Livingston (2g-2a), Cullen Lynch (3g), Griffin Mills (1g), Owen West (1g), Goaltending: Michael Muscarella 6s/11ga = 35% (48 mins). SOUTH SIDE-12 at VICTOR-11 in overtime in a NYS Championship game - The Victor Blue Devils, who after the third quarter, held a 9-5 lead over South Side (Section VIII), saw a determined Cyclone offense score five unanswered goals in the fourth quarter and eventually tying at 11-11 sending the game into overtime. There, in the first minute, Cole DiPietro scored the winning goal on a feed from Liam Livingston to end the game and disappoint the Blue Devils for the second year in a row.

Victor took an early lead up 4-2 at the end of the first quarter on two goals by Tanner Radogna and two from Jack Herendeen. Brody Secker scored the first of his three goals at the top of the second and twenty seconds later Matt Langan score the first of his two goals on a feed from Aiden Clinkscales who ended the game with (1g-2a). South Side ended the scoring for the half with Victor up 6-3.

Still in control, eighth grader Eli Ricci won his faceoff and raced to the goal at the start of the third quarter and then after a very quiet period Secker scored again taking the score to 8-3. Shortly thereafter, Cullen Lynch scored two in a row, including one from behind his back and 15 yards off the crease. Clinkscales  received a cross field pass from Herendeen to end the third quarter with the blue Devils up 9-5.

After three minutes of transition and a couple of saves at both ends of the field, South Side scored an amazing five unanswered goals in the span of five minutes to take their first lead of the game. Michael Aiello (3g-2a) and Lynch both scored unassisted goals, followed by a pair from Liam Livingston (2g-2a) and final goal from Cole DiPietro (2g-1a) who received a clearing pass after coming through the substitution area. The Cyclones were up 10-9, but at the 2:50 mark, long stick middie Matt Langan scored on a cross field pass from Clinkscales and less than a minute later Jackson Mead (1g-1a) scored on a pass from Herendeen to tie and then give Victor the lead with 1:30 left in regulation. In yet another amazing play, Aiello circled the back of the cage and with less than one second left on the clock he shot while falling down and put the ball in the upper corner for the 11-11 tie and overtime. On the first possession DiPietro scored the game winner.

*+ [UPDATED] There were thirty-four teams playing in Section V. Bishop Kearney scheduled eight games but elected to forgo the tournament at the end of the season. There were 1,149 players on the final rosters, up 256 players from 2023. Penfield and Victor carried the largest roster with thirty-eight players and Haverling and Pal-Mac with the smallest with nineteen. 

There were four classes for the sectional tournaments. McQuaid (A), Victor (B), and Aquinas (D) were top seeds and won their championships. In Class C, HFL (seeded second) won their game with top-Pal-Mac.

McQuaid had a 6-4 win against second seeded Penfield, Victor won their game against second seeded Irondequoit 9-6. Honeoye Falls-Lima had a 16-11 win against top seeded Pal-Mac ending the undefeated season for the Red Raiders.

The teams were able to play a full season again in 2024. The first games were played on March 26th when nine games were played. The last regular season games were played on May 16th.

The 301 regular season games were played and the 81 league games determined the league championships. According to the Section V website, in Monroe County-D-1 it was Fairport (8-6). In MC-2, Irondequoit (10-2) took the championship and in MC-3 Honeoye Falls-Lima (9-2) was on top. Pal-Mac (10-0) won the Finger Lakes East title and Mynderse (5-4) took the West title. There was no GRALL league this year.

At the end of the year, the Section V Head Coaches selected the post-season award winners including their All-League players. Then, after reviews of twenty-nine nominations, they selected six USA Lacrosse All-Americans and six All-Academics. Named All-Americans were Drew Angelo (HFL), Jonathan Bucciarelli (Greece Storm), Jonah Crarier (Ironderquoit), Jack Herendeed (Victor), Keagan Hoesterey (Pal-Mac), and Chase Perryman (HFL).

Named All-Academics were Jeremey Askin (Geneva), Ben Cook (HFL), Anthony DeRosa (Schroeder), Alex Garrow (Wayne), Cam Ryan (Victor), and Adam Schembri (Penfield).

Penfield Head Coach John Schembri was named Coach of the Year from Section V and the Bob Scott Award winner was Adam Schembri from Penfield.

The Coaches of Section V created a new award last year for the "Official of the Year" which was awarded to GVLOA official Dan Lacrosse.

The Monroe County Division 1 Player of the Year was Mike Valent (Rush-Henrietta). Cameron Mesh (Spencerport) was the Division 2 Player of the Year and Jack Faiola (Canandaigua) was Division 3 Player of the Year.

Nominees for the Bob Scott Award were Drew Pagano (Schroeder) and Jason Mosher (Hilton) and the Section V and USA Lacrosse Bob Scott Award winner was Keenan Edwards (East United-Eastridge).

The Monroe County Coaches of the Year were Aaron Botazzo (Irondequoit) in MC2, Bill Buttaro (Spencerport - MC3), and John Schembri (Penfield) in MC1.

Assistant Coaches of the Year were Keith Keehn (Greece Storm) from MC1, Marco DeBole (Brighton) from MC2, and Jack Beaney (HFL) from MC3.

The Finger Lakes East Player of the Year was Keagan Hoesterey (Pal-Mac). Max Heieck (Geneva) was selected Attackman of the Year, Alex Garrow (Wayne) was selected as Midfielder of the Year and Owen Weterings was picked as Defenseman of the Year. Peyton Lich (Pal-Mac) was selected as the Goalie of the Year.

The Finger Lakes West Player of the Year was Griffin Hillimire (Mynderse).  Tarikue Blueye (Marcus Whitman) was the Attackman of the Year, Melkamu Blueye (Marcus Whitman) was named Midfielder of the Year, and Issac Pundt (Mynderse) was the Defenseman of the Year. Kaiden Larsen (Midlakes-Red Jacket) was selected as Goalie on the Year. Connor Gorton (Marcus Whitman), was selected as the nominee for the Bob Scott Award.

Alex Garrow (Wayne), was selected as the nominee for the Bob Scott Award.

The Finger Lakes Coaches of the Year were Joe Hill (Pal-Mac - East) and Joe Caraher (Mynders - West). The Assistant Coaches of the Year were Ryan Knope (Wayne - East) and  Martin Williz (Bloomfield-Honeoye - West). The Persons of the Year were Derek Lich (East) and Jake Korneau (West).

Fairport (Class A), Gates Chili (Class B), Batavia-Notre Dame (Class C) and Aquinas (Class D) were awarded the Steve Morgan Sportsmanship Awards by the Genesee Valley Lacrosse Officials Association.

After the regular season, the Section V tournaments were conducted. McQuaid Jesuit (Class A), Victor (Class B), HF-L (Class C) and Aquinas (Class D) were the Sectional Champions in 2024.

There were All-Tournament Teams this year and there were MVPs for each class. Selected as MVPs for classes A, B, C and D were John Harding (McQuaid), Jack Herendeen (Victor), Drew Angelo (HF-L) and Noah Olbrich (Aquinas).

The SportsFive/Section V Players of the Year were Jonah Carrier (Irondequoit) in offense and Jonathan Bucciarelli  (Greece Storm) in defense. The Sportsman of the Year was Noah Olbrich (Aquinas).

The New York State Tournaments saw a change with an out-bracket game for Classes C and D which required that those champions played against the Section VI champions to play in the quarter finals. Both HFL and Aquinas won those outbracket games against Lake Shore/SIlber Creek (Class C) and Akron (Class D).

In Class A, McQuaid beat Orchard Park and then beat Liverpool in the semifinals. In Class B, Victor beat Niagara-Wheatfield, and then Vestal to reach the finals. In Class C, HF-L beat Johnson City (Section IV) and then lost to Jamesville-DeWitt and in Class D, Aquinas beat Chenango Valley (Section IV) and then lost to Marcellus in the semifinals. Section V sent two teams to the Championships, where McQuaid Jesuit defeated Farmingdale (VIII) in overtime and Victor lost to Southside (VIII) in overtime.

The All-Section V Awards were back this year with fifteen first team, fifteen second team, and ten Honorable Mention picks. They have not been announced yet.

The Democrat and Chronicle posted their AGR list in July: Jonah Carrier (Irondequoit) was selected as Player of the Year. Also making the team were Drew Angelo (HFL), Tano Auriuso (Aquinas), Ryan Bowerman (Penfield), Jonathan Bucciarelli (Greece), Anthony DeRosa (Schroeder), Vincenzo Giangreco (McQuaid), Jon Harding (McQuaid), Jack Herendeen (Victor), Keagan Hoesterey (Pal-Mac), Kieran Hughes (Brighton), Mitchell Monte (Fairport), Cooper Moore (Irondequoit), Chase Perryman (HFL), Brady Quill (Hilton), Cam Ryan (Victor),and Adam Schembri (Penfield). McQuaid Head Coach Alex Gray was chosen as Coach of the Year.

At the end of the season at least fifty-nine seniors have made college commitments. They will become part of over three hundred players from Section V who are currently playing at all college levels.

The Section V Lacrosse leadership has selected first, second and honorable mention lists of All-Section players. The 2024 first team lists fifteen players and includes the six All-Americans previously announced. "The first six athletes on the first team are easy" said Section Five Assistant Coordinator, Paul Wilson. "after that, it becomes more difficult as we have so many excellent players."

To be nominated each player was required to be selected to their first team all-league team (except Independent teams). The lists were selected from a pool of ninety-seven players. The selections were reviewed by Chairmen of each of the two leagues, two at-large coaches the Lacrosse Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator.

Although grade and league were not major factors in selection, the lists show the skills that are found throughout the section. Twelve Monroe County teams were represented on the lists, with the rest representing Finger Lakes (6), and Independents (3). Showing that the "Best of the Best" can come from any age group, there were 27 seniors, 10 juniors, and  4 sophomores listed. Distribution among the positions shows 12 midfielders, 11 attackmen, 10 defensemen, 2 FO specialists, 1 LSM, 1 A/M, and 4 goalies.
