Monday: Aquinas, McQuaid Jesuit Win

Two games were played today. Aquinas was the 16-3 winner over Haverling and McQuaid Jesuit, with a three goal spree won at Canisius (Section 6). Full Story

It turned back to winter today, with temperatures in the low 30's and heavy snow at some sites. Full Story

Thursday: Some Close Some Not

Night games were played today. Some games, like Mynderse over Midlakes in overtime, Spencerport over Hilton and McQuaid Jesuit over Brighton were close, some, however were not. Full Story

Friday: Conclusion

There were two unfinished games on Tuesday and they were concluded today in two different ways. On Tuesday, Rush-Henrietta was ahead 5-0 when the game was suspended just before the half. When the game was finished today, the Royal Comets had won 15-3. The Webster Schroeder game was not finished, but ended by agreement, and the Warriors were declared the 10-3 winner.  Full Story

Seven games were scheduled for Saturday and four of them were planned for the new turf field at Waterloo High School. Many games seemed to fall as expected.   Full Story

Tuesday: Fairport!

Can you spell D-a-n-y-l-y-s-h-y-n ? Fairport junior attackman Mike Danylyshyn scored the first five goals for Fairport and added one more to lead the Red Raiders to a 9-6 win at Penfield in this premiere Monroe County match up. Full Story

First New York State Poll Out

The first New York State Sportswriters Association Poll is out and Section Five has ten teams making the list. Full Story

Thursday: Storms

A number of games were impacted by thunder storms in the afternoon and evening. Section Five and NYS rules require that players and spectators be removed from the field when lighting is seen or thunder heard. There must be a period of 30 minutes without thunder or lightning before play may be resumed. Full Story

Saturday: Penn Yan in Overtime

The pre-game question asked if the strength of the Schroeder offense would be contained by the power of the Penn Yan defense. At the end of the second overtime the question could have been reversed, and it was Penn Yan 5-4. In other games Brighton took Victor and Aquinas took Waterloo. Full Story

Must See Games of the Week # 4

This is vacation week in Section Five and generally there are no league match ups. But given the prospects for beautiful weather and some good games to watch, perhaps there will be lost productivity in the work place this week. Full Story

Two vacation week games were played on Monday and both were lost in overtime for the teams who ventured out of the area for games. Full Story

Tuesday: Schroeder over Irondequoit

There were nine games scheduled for Tuesday. Schroeder was a 14-7 winner over host Irondequoit. Eastridge won its first game of the season. R-H was the winner in their close game with McQuaid Jesuit and Penn Yan beat Carthage. Full Story

Wednesday: Penfield Wins

Penfield traveled to Binghamton (Section 4)and won a close one with a score by Kelly McKenna. Full Story

Thursday: Penn Yan over Fairport

There were six games played on Thursday during vacation week. Defense was the name of the game at Penn Yan where the Mustangs scored the game winner in the last minute of the game. Canandaigua won by a goal at Irondequoit and Geneva scored three goals in last quarter to beat McQuaid Jesuit. Full Story

Penfield hosted Bishop Timon (Section 6) and was the 11-8 winner. Full Story

Saturday: Fairport over Corning East

After a tough vacation week schedule that included a win against Canandaigua and a loss to Penn Yan, Fairport finished vacation week with a dramatic 10-7 win over Corning East of Section 4. In other games Geneva lost a close game to Section 3 powerhouse CNS, Penn Yan beat Shenendehowa 10-2 and Schroeder beat Hamburg of Section 6 with a score of 12-3. Full Story

Monday: Thomas & Irondequoit Win

Two games were played today. Webster Thomas made up their game with Eastridge and Irondequoit played a cross over game with Arcadia/Olympia. Full Story

Tuesday: Crossover Day

For the most part it was cross-over day in Section Five. McQuaid Jesuit lost to St. Francis of Buffalo and Rush-Henrietta beat visiting Livonia. The rest of the games were league games with non-divisional teams. Full Story

Friday: Spencerport in Make up

Back before the spring break, the game between Spencerport and Athena/Odyssey was suspended due to a thunder storm. The game was finished today, with Spencerport the 17-6 winner. Full Story

Thursday: Penfield over Schroeder

Penfield, Schroeder and Fairport have now proved the idea that parity is alive and well in the Monroe County Class A teams. In other close games today, Brockport beat Athena/Odyssey by one goal as did Aquinas in their game with McQuaid Jesuit. Full Story

Saturday: Five Out of Section Wins

Six games today were against teams from outside Section Five and the Section Five teams won all but one of the contests. Fairport beat Orchard Park in a big game in Buffalo, Geneva beat Corning West, Penn Yan beat Amherst, HFL beat Hamburg and Victor beat Sweet Home. Canandaigua lost by one goal to Baldwinsville of Section Three. Full Story
