Monday: Newark over Midlakes and HF-L over Gananda
Midlakes had a 3-2 lead after the first quarter, but Newark took the rest of the game , winning 14-5 behind the efforts of Teddy Collins (4g-2a) and Cameron Casselman (3g-1a). Goal tender Cody Cornelius recorded 14s (74%) for the Reds, now 1-1. Gananda and HF-L played a very close game for the first half, but a 5-3 third quarter by the Cougars gave HF-L a 14-12 win on Monday night at home.

-- HF-L and Gananda had a drag out contest this evening with the Cougars taking the lead in the third quarter with six unanswered goals. HF-L won the contest 14-12, holding off a last run by the Blue Panthers.
The first six minutes saw both teams testing the cage and both goalies coming out strong. The opening goal of the game was scored by Connor Flaherty with an assist from Ryan Kelly for the Cougars. Four minutes later Gananda tied the game on a goal from Nick Rapp. Rapp finished with 2g-4a for the Blue Panthers. The first quarter ended with the score tied at 1-1.
In the second quarter, both teams added five goals and the score remained tied at halftime. Gananda took their first lead of the game with an unassisted goal from Kyler Friesner. Friesner led in goals for Gananda with 4g-1a. He also took the most shots with 10 (6 on cage). HF-L scored three unanswered goals in 1:41 to retake the lead. Kelly scored the first two (both assisted by Flaherty) and Peter Pluta scored the third. Friesner scored from the ensuing face off to keep the game within a single goal. HF-L kept up their scoring pressure with two more assisted goals. Flaherty added his third assist to Brandon Lewis and Kelly added his first assist to Jake Boice. HF-L held their largest lead of the contest to that point with a 6-3 lead over the Blue Panthers. Gananda came back to end the quarter with three straight goals. Rapp, Friesner and Colin Brillian scored for Gananda. Brillian's goal was assisted by defenseman Dylan Joy. Joy led his team with 12 ground balls. The score was tied going into halftime.
In the third quarter, Gananda took their second lead of the contest with Rapp assisting Josh Anken just 0:57 into the second half. Two minutes later HF-L tied the game for the fourth time with an unassisted goal from attackman Tim Breau (3g-2a). This time it was Gananda's turn to keep up the pressure as they scored the next two to take their largest lead of the game. Zach Rink (assisted by Anken) and Brillian (assisted by Rapp) scored. With 7:15 remaining in the third quarter Gananda held a two goal lead. HF-L took the game into their hands and scored the next six goals spanning a 6:33 period between the third and fourth quarters. Gananda scored three of the final four goals but never got closer than two goals.
In the cage for HF-L, Max Beniamino finished with 10 saves. Midfielder Jake Boice finished with a team leading six ground balls. Evan Gaudette, Aidan Papalia, Flaherty, Kelly and Pluta each added four ground balls to the team tally. For Gananda, Brandon Smith finished with 11 saves between the pipes. Riley Palmer (3) and Zach Binggeli (3) joined Joy in the ground ball count.
