Around the State: NYS Champions

The 2011 season ended with the crowning of champions in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association tournaments held at Cicero-North Syracuse High School today. There was a great deal of excitement at both the Class A and Class B games ended in overtime wins. Farmingdale of Section 8 beat Ithaca of Section 4 (12-11) in the Class A game. Jamesville-DeWitt of Section 3 beat Garden City of Section 8 (8-7) in Class B and Cazenovia of Section 3 beat Bayport-Blue Point of Section 11 (14-6) in Class C.

FARMINGDALE over Ithaca 12-11 Overtime
Ithaca-Farmingdale

It was the second overtime game in a row for the Little Red of Ithaca, having beaten Pittsford (6-5) in the semi finals. Ithaca senior Riley Lasda scored his fourth goal in a row to tie the game and send it into overtime. However, senior midfielder Korey Hendrickson for the Rams scooped up a ball on the crease and popped it in, giving Farmingdale it's first NYS title championship.

JAMESVILLE-DEWITT over Garden City 8-7 Overtime
JD - GC Jamesville-DeWitt won back-to-back NYS Championships with their 8-7 overtime victory over Garden City in the Class B game ending their season with a 44 game winning streak. With three seconds left in overtime, sophomore middie Jordan Evans received a down-field, fast break clearing pass from senior defenseman Matt Kopp and bounced the ball in on a one-on-one with GC goalie, Dan Marino.
   
Class A
CAZENOVIA vs Bayport-Blue Point 14-6
Cazevovia vs B-BP It was their first NYS Championship as the Cazenovia Lakers beat Bayport-Blue Point 14-6 in the Class C game. The Lakers led 9-2 at the half and benefited from great defensive play. Senior attackman Sean Cannizzaro was selected as the tournament offensive MVP after his five goal-two assist game.
