The Tigers recorded and two minutes later Kane scored his third of the game from an outside shot. The Mustangs scored the next two goals, the first when Dylan Yonts, on top right found Nate Nichols on the crease and the second, a goal by Jamil Modafarri, also on the crease with a feed from behind the net. With three minutes left in the half, the rain started to come down with increasing force and both teams took time outs to set up last shots. Penn Yan took a number of shots early in the quarter during the first three minutes. Lawson had a hard body check against a Mustang midfielder and then, after picking up the ground ball, sprinted all the way down filed and straight to the goal for an unassisted goal. The Mustangs then came back with the next three goals starting with Jordan Owen from top center. Nate Nichols scored eleven seconds later after Baird Wilber picked up the face off ground ball and charged down in fast break to tied the game at 5-5. Owen then took the ball to the midfield line and drove right down the center of the field and bounced one by Thielman to give Penn Yan their first lead of the game. The Mustangs scored their third goals in a one minute and twenty-second period. Nichols received a pass from Luppino, behind the net to take the score to 7-5, Penn Yan. With less than a minute left Kane scored his fourth goal of the game when he took the ball behind the cage and drove right , beat his man and faked low, shot high for the goal. The Mustangs led after three quarters, 7-6.

The fourth quarter scoring started with another goal by Lawson (his third) who set up behind the cage and drive right, pulling his defenseman forward, before rolling back for a write shot into the right top corner and tying the score at 7-7. A minute later he scored again on a feed from senior attackman Sean Smith from behind the net, but Penn Yan returned with two in a row. Starting with a goal by Adam Stork (assisted by Luppino) way out in front with a strong overhand bounce shot, the second goal game from Bradley Voigt who benefited from a ball knocked down in front of the goalie which Voigt swept into the goal with a hockey stick shot. The goal gave Penn Yan a 9-8 lead which held until the last two minutes of the game when Smith hit sophomore Evan Thielman on a crease cut to tie the game at 9-9.

Although both teams had offensive ball time but with 7.3 second remaining Smith ran a parallel cut behind the cage and waited for junior attackman Clifton Jackson to be open up front. Jackson threw a hard overhand bounce shot that scored for the Amherst Win.
