Players of the Week - Group 4

Player of the Week

In the fifth week of the season, we honor two Section Five players.

Gavin Lathrop Offensive Player of the Week
Gavin Lathrop

Sophomore attackman Gavin Lathrop had a big game when the Midlakes Eagles beat Mynderse in overtime last week. The score was 8-7 and Gavin scored the winning goal just seventeen seconds into overtime. He also scored six other goals in the game.

Lathrop has recorded 27g-5a this year for Midlakes, now 6-3.

Head Coach Ben Clement took time from his brand new daughter, Aldyn Marie to say: "This week Gavin tallied eleven goals and four assist including a seven goal performance (out of 8) against Mynderse. After graduating our leading scorer last year Gavin has stepped up to take that roll. Gavin is a leader on attack and as a unit they are starting to click, he seems to always be in the right spot at the right time."

Joe Wegman Defensive/Face Off Player of the Week
Joseph Wegman

The new Greece Storm team is small in numbers but doing quite well at 8-3 and one reason is the face off work of Joe Wegman.

When the Storm ended Gananda's undefeated season last week, Wegman won eighteen draws (82%). Later in the week the senior midfielder turned in a 75% game and then a 90% day.

Last year, while playing for the Thunder he finished his junior season with 258 wins (68%).

Head Coach Andy Hilton says: "Over the past two seasons, Joe has been an essential part to our success. Going into a game knowing you have a guy who will win you possession a huge majority of the time allows us to focus on other aspects of the game. Joe’s consistency at the faceoff X can be seen on display every game. His work ethic and leadership earned him team captain this year."

This is the fourth award group for 2018. Group three honored Quinn Simonson (Irondequoit) and Joe Camp (Wayne). Group two honored Brett Cunningham (Gananda) and Caleb Green (Brighton). Group one honored Jack Billitier (McQuaid), Trevor Ford (Thomas), William Fell (Penfield_ and Aiden Kenyon (Canandaigua).
