Big Save by Kelly Gives Win to HF-L

NOTES: Bryce Kelly made his 100th save of the season with seconds left on the clock to secure the 9-8 win for HF-L over Brighton. The Cougar scored the last four goals of the contest and held Brighton scoreless for the final 16:48 in their win. Kelly had an impressive game between the pipes with twelve saves and finished at 60%. Offensively, the Cougars looked to midfielder Alex Mapstone (4g-2a), attackmen Ryan Kelly (2g-2a) and Tim Breau (2g-2a). All nine of the goals by the Cougars were assisted goals.

Brighton played an impressive three quarters but could not keep up their scoring the final quarter. The Barons finished with 28 shots (16 on cage). They had seven shots in the final quarter with Kelly securing three saves. Between the pipes for Brighton, Andy Wong finished with 10 saves (53%). Midfielder Will Bender finished with 11 shots (4 on cage and 2 goals) and attackman Brett Randall finished with 8 shots (6 on cage and 2 goals).

HF-L scored the opening goal of the contest with Breau assisting Kelly. Brighton tied the score less than a minute later with Bender assisting Allen Vitale. One minute later another pair of goals happened with Mapstone scoring for HF-L and Bender scoring for Brighton. Brighton took their first lead of the game with another unassisted goal from Bender. HF-L scored the final goal of the opening quarter to keep the game tied going into the second quarter.

The second quarter belonged to the Brighton. The Barons added two goals and held HF-L scoreless. HF-L went 16:59 without a goal spanning the first through third quarters. HF-L scored the opening two goals of the third quarter to tie the game at 5-5 with 8:30 remaining. Brighton scored a run of three goals in just over two minutes to take the largest lead of the game by either team. Randall scored two goals and Vitale scored the third. The Barons led 8-5 with 4:32 remaining in the third quarter. HF-L scored two goals to end the third quarter and two more to begin the fourth quarter.
