NYS Quarters: Penn Yan Over Akron

Penn Yan took the game into running time in the third quarter on their way to a 20-8 win over previously undefeated Akron (Section VI). The Mustangs scored the first four goals of the game and led throughout the contest. A short lightning delay in the opening quarter stopped play with Penn Yan leading 1-0. Junior midfielder Austin Fingar dominated the game finishing with 7g-1a. He also led his team with 12 ground balls.Penn Yan vs AkronDefenseman Scott Fingar finished with another 4 ground balls and 1 take. Attackman Sean Emerson and defenseman Tanner Irwin had two takes each. Between the pipes, Gage Ponsetti played the entire contest and finished at 50% with eight saves.

Akron had seven players make their offensive scorebook. Attackman Larson Sundown and midfielder Geffery Besser finished with three points each: Sundown (2g-1a) and Besser (1g-2a). Midfielder Owen Hill led his team with six ground balls. Chanunce Hill and Sundown had five ground balls each. Defenseman Jared Siska had three takes for the Tigers. Long stick Chanunce Hill finished 4/4 at the face off draw. In the cage for the Tigers, Frank Uebelhoer played 38 minutes and recorded two saves. Kingsley Jonathan played nine minutes with three recorded saves.

The Mustangs will continue on to play Cazenovia (Section 3) at 3:30 on Wednesday at St. John Fisher.
