Victor Over Corning in Semis

 SPORTSFIVE REPORT:

There is not much to say about the Victor Blue Devil win tonight as they cruised past Corning in the semifinal Class A game at Bragman Stadium (CN-S High School). Victor face off specialist won his first eleven face offs in the first half (and finished with 17 of 18) to give the Blue Devils almost exclusive ball time. With a very patient opening offense the players moved the ball from every direction, while scoring four unanswered goals in the first quarter and ending the half up 9-1.Victor

Coach Jim Andre started making substitutions in the second half and after the game went into running time, many more players got field experience. Starting goalie, Chayse Ierlan, who made some exciting one-on-one stops recorded nine saves while allowing only one goal in his three quarter performance.

Next up for the Blue Devils is another shot at a New York State Championship. Coach Andre is fond of saying that the team is not "defending their title" from last year because that was in Class B and this year they are playing in Class A. In any event, Victor has a record of 21-0 this season and are on a 43 game winning streak with their last loss in 2014 (against Jamesville-Dewitt in the NYS semifinal game). On Saturday they will be playing Ward Melville who defeated Lakeland/Panas 16-6 tonight. The Patriots are currently 18-6. Game time in Middletown is 4:00 pm.
