Class C Champions: PENN YAN Again.

St. John Fisher College - Penn Yan won it's 7th straight Section Five Class C Championship with first year Head Coach, Brian Hobart and 13 underclassmen as they defeated Geneva in a close 12-10 victory at St. John Fisher College.
 
Geneva scored the first goal at 7:51 as Carson Poole picked up a loose ball near the crease and scored an unassisted goal. Penn Yan scored the next two goals as senior middie, Brendan Hamm (3g) scored (unassisted) and junior middie, John Van Houten (3g) added a goal assisted by sophomore middie, Dan Mesler (3g-1a). The quarter ended with Penn Yan up 2-1.
 
Geneva scored first again in the second as Matt Warner scored an unassisted man up goal at 10:59. The Mustangs came back with three in a row as Messler scored two unassisted goals and Dan McGuffie added a goal assisted by senior attackman and Tournament MVP, Kyle Eakens (1g-5a). Geneva then scored two goals; the first by Chris Toner, assisted by Mike Toner (2a) and the second, an unassisted goal by Greg Bonney (2g). The half ended with the Mustangs up 5-4.
 
Penn Yan took off after the break, outscoring the Panthers 6-3 with two goals by Hamm (one assisted by Steven Carlsen), and a single goals by McGuffie, assisted by Eakens and Mesler, assisted by Eakens. Van Houten and Eakens each added unassisted goals for the Mustangs. Geneva saw goals from Luke Bonney (1g-1a) assisted by Mike Toner, Matt Morabito (unassisted) and Andrew Shamy, assisted by Luke Bonney. Penn Yan was ahead at the end of three quarters, 11-7.
 
In the last quarter Geneva scored on a broken clear when senior defenseman, Craig McDonald scored his unassisted goal at 11:11. Van Houten scored the last goal for Penn Yan at 9:35 when he scored in man up with an feed from Eakens. Geneva's Matt Warner added an unassisted goal at 5:25 and freshman attackman, Greg Bonney scored an unasisted goal with 47 seconds left in the game.
 
Penn Yan freshman goalie, R.J. Wickham made 11 saves for the Mustangs including five in the third quarter.
 
Making the Class C All-Tournament Team from Penn Yan were, Dan Mesler, Brendan Hamm, Dan McGuffie, Michael Manley, RJ Wickham and MVP Kyle Eakens. Selected from Geneva were Matt Warner, Luke Bonney, Craig McDonald and Dan Rago. Josh Hendrickson from Livonia was also selected.
 
Pen Yan will play the only outbracket game on Saturday, as they face Section X Champion, Canton, who beat Salmon River 18-13 on May 21st. The game will be played at 1:00 at St. John Fisher College.
 
The winner of the that game will take on the Class C winner from Section Six (Buffalo). That game will be played at Canisius College on Tuesday June 1st at 5:30 pm.
