The greatly anticipated contest between Victor and Pittsford was resolved, at least at this point, tonight when Victor overcame a 4-2 halftime deficit and scored seven goals in the second half to beat the Panthers 9-6.

Gananda used their game as a benefit to help support their former Head Coach Mike Pane in his battle against brain cancer. Aquinas continued their winning ways in a 5-3 win over Canisius and Waterloo won a non-league game against Batavia.

Fourteen of the fifteen games played today were mismatches of various magnitudes. The most exciting game of the day was the overtime win by Spencerport over Brockport.

There were interesting games today and two of the more interesting were won by one goal. Thomas beat Fairport 12-11 and Penfield beat Penn Yan 9-8. Churchville-Chili defeated HFL 16-13 and Irondequoit defeated Brighton 10-7.

Irondequoit has a 15-9 win over visiting Ithaca while Livonia used a last minute flurry to take Rush-Henrietta in overtime. Waterloo and Midlakes played a close game, but the Indians held on to their one goal lead for the win.

Brighton`s Brady McDermott scored with 0:59 remaining in regulation to secure a 14-13 win over Webster Thomas. Aquinas used two overtime periods to secure their win from Canisius as all but one team in the section played games today.

# 1259  Penn Yan Wins 22nd Title

Penn Yan won their twenty-second Section Five Title (seventh consecutive) with a 13-6 win over Waterloo.  The Mustangs scored the first four goals and held the Indians scoreless for the entire first quarter.  Waterloo scored four of the last five goals to pull the score closer than the game played.  A key component to the Mustang victory was midfielder Connor Fingar at the face-off draw.  Fingar won nearly all the face-offs and was named Class D All Tournament MVP.

The All Tournament Teams for 2017 were announced at each final. MVPs for A and C were Colby Barker (Pittsford) and James Blazey (Pal-Mac). In the Class B, the award went to Andrew Russell (Victor) and in the class D it went to Connor Finger (Penn Yan).

# 1225  Thursday: Hilton Spoils Senior Night at Brighton

A five goal run in the fourth quarter gave Hilton (5-9) a win against host Brighton (6-7) tonight on Senior Night. Hilton took their first lead of the game with 6:12 remaining in the fourth quarter and held off Brighton’s attempt at a comeback to defeat the Barons 13-11. Brighton played three strong quarters before Hilton took over in the fourth. The Cadets scored five unanswered goals spanning just over 4 minutes in the final quarter to secure the win.

# 1223  Jensen Leads Waterloo in Win

Waterloo took over with five straight goals spanning the end of the second and beginning of the third to defeat Bloomfield-Honeoye 10-7.  The first half was close with Waterloo scoring the opening with an unassisted goal from Adam Jensen.  B-H responded with back to back goals to take the lead.  Jon Marble and Tyler Joslyn both scored for the Pride.  The Indians scored the final goal of the quarter to tie the game at 2-2.

# 1201  Colton Scored Two for Waterloo

Tyler Colton scored the final two goals for Waterloo in their 5-2 win over Newark.  The game was close for the first half before the Indians took off in the second half.  Waterloo held the Reds scoreless for the final 32 minutes, while adding three of their own.  Parker Casselman and Forrest Blondell scored for the Reds.  For Waterloo, Derek Excell (3) and Adam Jenson (4) led in the ground balls count.  George Williams recorded 15 saves (88%) for the Indians.

DAY IN REVIEW: Junior midfielder Shea McDonald scored the winning goals with 10.1 seconds left in overtime to give Brighton (4-3) the win over visiting Canandaigua (6-3) with a scored of 14-13. Casey McDermott was the scoring leader for the Barons with 4g-2a. Brett Randall added 4g.

Waterloo scored the final three goals to defeat Bloomfield-Honeoye 6-4.  The Indians also scored the first three goals to take the early lead.  All four of the Pride’s goals were scoring in a stretch spanning the second and third quarters.

DAY IN REVIEW: It rained throughout the section and as temperatures dropped over the afternoon, four school cancelled their games, but ten did play. As has been the norm, thus far this year, many were mismatches but there were two one goal games as Pal-Mac defeated Penn Yan and Brighton beat Hilton.

# 426  Finger Lakes Releases Awards for 2016

The All Star list is out recognizing the Finger Lakes players for the 2016 season. Senior defenseman, Dylan Joy from Gananda was selected as Finger Lakes "Player of the Year". The "Midfielder of the Year" was Thomas Knapp from Wayne. The "Attackman of the Year" was Jon Ecker from Wayne and Wayne Head Coach Eric Carlsen was named Coach of the Year. Mike Denely from Bloomfield-Honeoye was named Assistant Coach of the Year and Mark Crane from Mark`s Pizzeria was named Man of the Year.
