Week In Review - Week 4

EDITOR'S NOTE: This weekly summary touches on some of the games played in the recent past and highlights some games of interest in the current week. For more in-depth coverage, click on the DAY OF THE WEEK for more coverage for that day, including box scores, articles, and galleries.

There were twenty-four games played last week with a couple of overtime games. At the moment there are fifty-two out of section games scheduled and twenty-three have been played. Section Five teams have won eleven and lost twelve (48%). There are only three undefeated team left at this point: Fairport (4-0), Victor (5-0) and Irondequoit (4-0).

Looking Back

The week started on Monday with four games. It was an overtime win for Churchville-Chili in their game with HF-L and the other three games were mismatches.

Thomas at CAThere were seven games on Tuesday including Canandaigua`s win over Thomas in a replay of last year`s Class B championship game, but with different results. Spencerport came up with two goals in less than a minute but was one goal short as Penfield won 10-9. Pittsford beat Hilton 6-5. Sophomore midfielder Luke Fliss scored the game-winner for the Panthers. The win gave Coach Andrew Whipple his 200th.

McQuaid Jesuit broke a 4-4 halftime score and beat visiting Chenango Forks 15-7 on Wednesday. Freshman midfielder JP Gianforti won 7 of 9 and eighth grader Domenic Giangreco won 7 of 11 faceoffs for the Knights. 

Fairport midfielder Mitch Monte and R-H faceoff specialist Mike Valent were named Players of the Week.

A couple of games were postponed on Thursday, but eight were still played. Victor had a 10-3 win over visiting Pittsford and Fairport was a 10-7 winner on the road at Hilton.

The week finished on Saturday with four games highlighted by an overtime win by Pal-Mac over Brighton. Face off specialist Quinn Nolan won 18 of 21 draws, scored the game winning goal and led the team with 3g-1a. In another exciting game, Irondequoit held on for their 9-8 win over Visiting Schroeder.

Looking Ahead

Last week half the teams were on vacation and this week the other half will be on break, so the number of games is once again, light. Like last week, some games will be played during the early part of the day.

Pal-Mac and C-CAt the moment there are no games set for Monday.

On Tuesday there are nine games set including Marcus Whitman at Geneva and McQuaid Jesuit at Hilton.

Canandaigua is at Fairport and Livonia-Avon is at Schroeder on Wednesday.

On Thursday there are ten games scheduled including Penfield at Comsewogue, Irondequoit at Thomas, Haverling at Aquinas and Victor at J-D.

On Friday CA will play Brother Rice, Waterloo is at Pal-Mac and Orchard Park is at Pittsford.

On Saturday there are ten games scheduled including Fairport at Penn Yan, Livonia-Avon at Marcus Whitman, Thomas at Baldwinsville, and Victor will play Brother Rice.
