Geneva Honoring the Past with The Present

Geneva 2022

Class C - Finger Lakes League

As he starts his second full season, Coach Dunham is excited to share the history of the first scholastic team in the section. "We are honored to have the opportunity to represent all the past players and coaches on the 100th year anniversary of the start of lacrosse in Geneva. Geneva has had some tremendous lacrosse players over the years and this group has it's fair share as well. We are looking forward to a great season dedicated to all of our former players and coaches."

GenevaThe past includes assists leader Nate Askin (29g-36a - Brockport), 1st team all-league midfielder Aiden Eighmey (40g-23a), Mike Guinan (16g-3a), Kaleb Waters (23g-6a) and in the defense Luis Torruella.

There is, however, plenty left after the 2021 graduation. Senior defenseman Luke Choffin was a second teamer as a long stick midfielder. He will defend in front of senior goalie Garrett Kayser, a 55% keeper who made 122 saves and will play at Roberts Wesleyan next year.

Junior midfielder Daniel Wright returns this year after scoring 21g-19a last year. In the attack are juniors Curtis Denison who scored 30g-9a as a freshman, before two ACL tears and COVID cost him his sophomore and junior years and Ryan Brown, a first team all-league pick who scored 28g-32a last year. Filling out the attack is senior Max Miller who was a third team all-league player who scored 28g-10a last year.

The Panthers were 11-6 last year after finishing with a dramatic semifinal loss to eventual winner HF-L when, in one minute three goals were scored to break a tie. Geneva plays most of their games against Finger Lakes teams. They have non-league games scheduled against Canandaigua, Aquinas, Brighton, McQuaid Jesuit and (perhaps) Skaneateles (if it can be rescheduled).

They also will play Corning on May 14th, when they officially recognize the 1922 start of scholastic lacrosse in the area. Corning was, in the early years a great rival and a great connection as the founder of Corning lacrosse was Joe Corcoran, who also revived the program at Geneva after WWII. When the Panthers host Aquinas on May 5th, they will probably recognize Joe's son and Geneva native son, Terry Corcoran, Head Coach at Aquinas. (More on the 100 Year Celebration)

Given their schedule and the historical excitement, the Panthers could do well this year and although they will not play HF-L in the regular season, they will get a peek at the Class C opposition when they play Wayne and Pal-Mac.

The Panthers will play a Finger Lakes schedule and have added games with Canandaigua and Brockport.
