Tuesday: Wayne vs Geneva 5:00 PM

Wayne vs GenevaFirst up is the Class C where second seeded Wayne will face top seeded Geneva at 5:00. Wayne is currently 13-4 after defeating Livonia-Avon in the semi finals on Friday. It was a 10-5 win for the Eagles as John Reagan scored four goals and Ryan Cahill added 2g-2a. Goalie, John Acker made six saves (55%) in the cage.

Sam MillerWayne has averaged eleven goals per game while allowing just over seven goals against. Five players have scored over twenty points this year with John Reagan (50g-15a) leading in points and goals scored and Ryan Cahill (24g-29a) leading in assists.

This is the second trip to the finals for Wayne and in the one meeting this year Geneva came out on top 7-5. The teams have been playing each other since 2012 and Geneva currently holds a 9-8 advantage. The two teams played in the 2018 Championship and Geneva was a 13-2 winner.

Geneva enters the tournament at 13-4. They have averaged 12.8 goals per game while allowing 6.3 with Sam Miller (52g-31a) leading in assists and points and Nick Askin (54g-11a) leading in goals. Junior attackman Dugan Doeblin (34g-18a) also provides offense for the Panthers. Senior goalie Brandon Wayne  has a reported 55% save average with 97 saves. He has had five games this year with save percentages over 60% and recorded an 58% in the Wayne game earlier in May.

Geneva has won seven Section Five Championships, the most recent last year when they defeated Wayne.

Jeff Dunham will lead the Panthers in place of long-time Head Coach LJ Russell, who is on administrative leave. Coach Dunham will be assisted by Mike Rice.

Both teams are eager for this game. It should be an exciting Class C Championship.

Tuesday: Penfield vs Fairport 7:30 PM

Hilton vs FairportIn the 7:30 matchup third seeded Hilton will play top seeded Fairport for the Class A Championship.

Hilton is currently 14-4 with their losses from top teams including West Genesee (12-7), Victor (13-5), Pittsford (12-6) and Canandaigua (14-4), all of whom made it to the final four in their tournaments. They have outscored their opponents 179-129, averaging almost ten goals per game while giving up just over seven.

This will be Hilton's first trip to the Championship round. They won their ticket with an exciting overtime win against Pittsford when Matthew Mojsej scored his second goal of the game. It was only the second time that the Cadets had beaten the Panthers and six different players scored one goal each.

Shawn DoranLeading the scoring for the Cadets is junior attackman Zach Boyatzies (40g-8a) who leads in goals and points. Junior attackman Ben Mitrano has 21g-18a and senior Brenden Howell has 17g-13a for the Cadets. Jacob Kelsey gets most of the time in the goal and has an average of 54%. In the Semifinal victory, he made ten saves (63%). The key for the success of the Cadets this year is most certainly the face off work of Shawn Doran. He has won 301 face offs this season (74%) including sixteen games where is was over seventy percent and nine of them were over ninety percent. Earlier in the season he broke the Hilton ground ball record and currently has 248.

Fairport has won eight Section Five Championships, most recently in 2014 when they beat Pittsford 7-6. They enter this game at 15-2, having lost only to Corning (18-7) and, on May 2nd to Hilton (9-8). They have not lost since, winning seven in a row. The Red Raiders have scored 157 goals this year (9.8) while allowing 98 (5.9). They punched their ticket to the finals with an 11-6 win over Penfield.

As usual, The Red Raiders have a large roster (41), but only five players have over twenty points this year. Junior midfielder Klay Stuver leads in goals and points with 43g-13a. Colin Peers leads in assists with 32g-19a and Kole Herren (15g-13a), Gavin Ingalls (24g-7a), Alex Nicastro (13g-14a) and Kole Stuver (14g-8a) demonstrate Fairport's balanced offense. Junior goalie Tim Defendis has most of the time in the Red Raider goal and currently stands at 56%. He has only had four games under fifty percent, including the Hilton loss where he had 8s/9ga.

In the fifteen games the two teams have played, Hilton has only won one time, but the last two games have been one-goal games. Doran won 11 of 21 faceoffs in the first game but has not been below 72% since that game. The Hilton defense will have difficulty handling all the different Fairport scoring threats. Expect another good game.
