Canandaigua's Great Season Ends

- Garden City defeated Canandaigua 14-5 to win their 10th NYS Championship. The Trojans last won the Title in 2023. 

Garden City came out strong GC vs CAin tonight’s match-up, scoring the first 12 goals of the game and holding the Gray Wolves scoreless for the entire first half. Junior Charlie Koester led the Trojans in scoring with 3g-3a. Sophomore Anthony Asaro (4g-1a) and Freshman Ben Smith (3g) also had big offensive nights. For the Gray Wolves, Jack Stanney led with 2g.

The first goal of the night was scored by Smith who scored on a fast-break with an assist from Koester only 1:09 into play. The Trojans kept up the offensive pressure with an unassisted goal by Asaro, followed by back to back goals by Smith. The first of which was a loose ball pick-up from the crease and the second of which was another fast break goal. All three of his goals were in the first quarter. Garden City led 4-0 after the first quarter.GC vs CA In the second quarter, they kept up the pressure adding another eight goals, five of which were assisted. Scoring was spread out with Asaro scoring three, Koester and Michael Berkery scoring two each, and Brayden Robertiello scoring the last. The Trojans led 12-0 going into halftime.

In the third quarter, Canandaigua posted their first two goals of the game. AJ Sterman scored the first on a drive from behind the cage with 9:12 left on the clock. Five minutes later and Drew Williamee scored, unassisted. Garden City led 12-2 going into the final quarter. Canandaigua also added the first two goals of the fourth quarter with scoring by Patrick Olvany GC vs CAand the first of Stanney’s goals. The final two goals for the Trojans were scored after Canandaigua started pulling their goalie out of the cage to try and double the ball. Koester and Taylor Minuto scored with Minuto scoring on a fully open net with 2:18 left on the clock.

This marked the third time that Canandaigua had made the NYS Finals. They last made the Finals in 2022, where they lost to Garden City as well.
