Week In Review - Week 6

EDITOR'S NOTE: This weekly summary touches on some of the games played in the recent past and highlights some games of interest in the current week. For more in-depth coverage, click on the DAY OF THE WEEK for more coverage for that day, including box scores, articles, and galleries.

There forty-seven games played last week. There are seventy-eight out of section games scheduled and 70 have been played. Section V teams have won 45 and lost 25 (64%). Pal-Mac (15-0) is the only undefeated team at this point.

Looking Back

On Monday there were five games played and most of them were won by more than three goals. Winners were Gananda, Pal-Mac, East United-Eastridge and Marcus Whitman. Drew Angelo (HFL-faceoff) and Ethan Aust (Penfield) were named Players of the Week.

On Tuesday there were thirteen games played and five were close ones. Pittsford was a 8-6 winner over Penfield. Marcus Whitman defeated Brockport by a score of 4-2. Newark was a 8-7 winner over Bloomfield-Honeoye in double overtime. Brighton defeated Thomas by a score of 9-7.  Haverling defeated Bishop Kearney by a score of 10-9 and gave Head Coach Ken DiDomineck his 150th win.

On Wednesday there were no games played.

Brockport at GanandaOn Thursday there were sixteen games played and one was a close one. Victor defeated Penfield by a score of 6-4. Other winners included Irondequoit over Canandaigua, Schroeder over Greece, and Geneva over Mynderse.

On Friday there was only one game played. Midlakes-Red Jacket defeated Haverling.

On Saturday there were a dozen games played today and only one was a close ones. Fayetteville-Manlius defeated Pittsford by a score of 9-8. There were eight games played with teams from outside Section V and six were wins.

Looking Ahead

Wayne at HiltonThere are thirty-four games scheduled for this last week of the regular season. There should be some exciting ones especially on Tuesday and Thursday when there are thirteen games scheduled on each day. Also expect some important "bubble team" games where a victory or loss can affect their own seeding and the seeding of others. There are at least eight teams that are "locked" into their own win/loss percentage, but there are sixteen that are not.

On Monday (6 games) Wayne is at Geneva and Batavia-Notre Dame is at Gananda.

On Tuesday (13 games) Bishop Kearney is at Marcus Whitman, HFL is at Irondequoit, Haverling is at Batavia-Notre Dame, McQuaid is at Fairport, Brighton is at Penfield, and Canandaigua is at Pittsford.

On Wednesday (2 games) there are two games on deck. The Lakers are at Wayne and Brighton is at Churchvile Chili.

Pal-MacOn Thursday (13 games) The last games of the regular season will be played. Penn Yan is at Fairport, Thomas is at R-H, BH is at Marcus Whitman, Spencerport is at Livonia-Avon, Batavia-Notre Dame is at Brockport, Pittsford is at Hamburg, and Victor is at McQuaid. The last scheduled game (7:30 start) is Schroeder at Hilton.

On Friday Tournament seedings and schedules will be posted here and on the Section V website.

Saturday (3 games) The 2024 Sectional tournaments begin with out bracket games in Classes B (2 games) and D (1 game).
