Week In Review - Week 5

EDITOR'S NOTE: This weekly summary touches on some of the games played in the recent past and highlights some games of interest in the current week. For more in-depth coverage, click on the DAY OF THE WEEK for more coverage for that day, including box scores, articles, and galleries.

There were thirty-two games played last week with a couple of overtime games. At the moment there are fifty-two out of section games scheduled and thirty-three have been played. Section Five teams have won sixteen and lost seventeen (48%). Victor (7-0) is the only undefeated team left at this point.

Looking Back

The week started on Tuesday with eight games. Hilton traveled to McQuaid for their 7-4 win and Geneva beat Marcus Whitman 10-6. Six other games were not so close. The Brighton at Thomas game was postponed.

OP at PittsfordOn Wednesday Canandaigua traveled to Fairport where they posted a 9-5 win. Seven players scored points for the Warriors in their win over Livonia-Avon.

Penfield goalie Seamus Hand and Haverling A/M Jamie O`Neil were named Players of the Week.

Thursday saw eight games including Haverling`s 14-13 win over Aquinas in a GRALL league game. It was a big win for the visiting Mustangs as they took a 6-4 lead into halftime and coasted to an 8-6 win over long-time rival Geneva. Victor beat J-D and Thomas beat Irondequoit.

It was Senior Day at Pittsford on Friday as they posted a 10-3 win over Orchard Park (Section VI). Brother Rice from Michigan came to Buffalo where they beat Canandaigua 5-2.

Finishing out the two weeks of vacation schedules, on Saturday there were eleven games played.  Junior attackman Drew Smith scored his third goal in overtime to give Gananda an 11-10 win at Sweet Home (Section VI). Victor scored four goals in the last quarter for their 9-5 win over Brother Rice (Michigan). Irondequoit defeated HF-L, Mynderse took out Waterloo and Fairport beat Penn Yan.

 

Looking Ahead

Haverling at AQWith vacations over, we are back to pre-pandemic schedules and fifty-two games that will be played this week.

There are two games set for Monday. East United-Eastridge is at Greece and Midlakes-Red Jacket is at Batavia.

On Tuesday there are seventeen games set including Victor at Fairport, Gates Chili at HF-L, Thomas at Spencerport, Pal-Mac at Geneva, Penfield at Pittsford, McQuaid Jesuit at Livonia-Avon and Irondequoit at Churchville-Chili.

The Eagles of Wayne are at Aquinas on Wednesday.

On Thursday there are fifteen games scheduled including Geneva at Wayne, Fairport at Penfield, Newark at Whitman, and the Churchville-Chili at Gates Chili.

On Friday Haverling is at Bishop Kearney.

On Saturday there are sixteen games scheduled including McQuaid at Spencerport, Corning at Canandaigua, BVille at Victor and Pittsford at Christian Brothers.
