Week In Review - Week 3

EDITOR'S NOTE: This weekly summary touches on some of the games played in the recent past and highlights some games of interest in the current week. For more in-depth coverage, click on the DAY OF THE WEEK for more coverage for that day, including box scores, articles, and galleries.

There were forty games played last week with a couple of overtime games. At the moment there are fifty-two out of section games scheduled and nineteen have been played. Section Five teams have won nine (47%).

Looking Back

Aquinas-Livonia-AvonThe week started on Tuesday with a dozen games.

Thomas goalie Owen Dalberth made two saves in the last minute to help the Titans to a 13-12 win over Penfield. Five goals in the second quarter were the difference for Brockport as they defeated Waterloo 9-6. Both goalies had good games as Newark beat Gates Chili 4-3. Fairport score two late scores to come back and beat Pittsford 8-7 with freshman middie Mitchell Monte scoring 5g.

Jack Faiola (CA goalie) and Quinn Nolan (Pal-Mac M/FO) were named Players of the Week.

There were two games on Wednesday with Geneva and Salamanca the winners.

On Thursday there were thirteen games played and most were mismatches. Although Brighton fought back with a late surge, Penfield held on for a 7-6 win.

Marcus Whitman beat Batavia-Notre Dame on Friday.

The week finished on Saturday with another dozen games, most of which were out of the section. In town, however,  junior midfielder Matthew Ranalletta (4g-2a) scored the game winner in overtime to give the Storm  at 13-12 win against Wayne. After trading goals in the first part of the game, Gananda took the lead and never let go as they beat Brockport 10-8. Penn Yan dropped a close one with Carthage (9-7). The Wildcats fought back with four goals in the last quarter to give West Genesee an 8-7 win over Penfield.

Looking Ahead

With some of the schools off this week there are only twenty-six games scheduled, some during the early part of the day.

Pal-Mac and C-CAt the moment there are four games set for Monday. Geneva is a Skaneatles, UPrep is playing Kearney, Victor is at McQuaid, and Churchville-Chili is at HF-L.

On Tuesday there are seven games set including Thomas at Canandaigua.

Chenango Forks plays at McQuaid Jesuit on Wednesday.

On Thursday there are ten games scheduled including Pittsford at Victor, Schroeder at Brighton, Penfield at Spencerport, and R-H at Fairport.

There are currently no games planed for Friday.

On Saturday there are four games set:  Brighton at Pal-Mac, Niskayuna at Victor, Penn Yan at CA and Schroeder at Irondequoit
