Victor Players Ready to Step Up
March 28, 2022 -
Victor 2022
Class B - Monroe County League
Class B is, without doubt, the most competitive class in the section and, historically, the top of the group has been Victor, Thomas, Canandaigua and Penfield. Last year Victor was 13-2 for new Head Coach Dan Stone with their only losses to Canandaigua (5-7) during the regular season and Thomas in the semifinals (7-10).
Gone from last year's team are Cal Lambert (USMA), who led the team with 40g-17a and faceoff specialist Logan Callahan (Johns Hopkins) who won 242 draws (86%) . Also gone are three close defensemen, Michael Mitchko, Alex Parton and Charlie Robbins (NJIT).
However, the Blue Devils program runs deep with talent and there are a good number of returning players with experience and many other players who have been waiting their turn. There are seven seniors on the thirty-three player roster.
Coach Stone says, "We have many positions to fill with candidates ready to step in and do so. Though we are young on paper, this roster has played together for many years and understands the importance of competing for each other."
The Blue Devils will get some ball-time with junior Sam Ricci who has committed to Cornell and learned a great deal from the previous faceoff specialist. In his limited time last year he won 77% of his faceoffs as a sophomore. Fellow junior Thomas Gravino had 30g-9a last year and will help to lead in the midfield. He has committed to Maryland. Senior defenseman Louis Germain, who is set to play at Bucknell next year will anchor the defense in front of returning goalies, senior Zach Pavia (54%) and Brady Robinson (53%) and newcomer Rylan Seager.
In the attack Victor will look to Stony Brook commit Sam Gotham who had 21g-16a as a sophomore, along with junior Pax Marshall (20g-7a) and sophomore feeder Jack Herendeen (3g-27a).
Victor is a MC-D2 school and will play some of the best of Class B as part of their regular season schedule. The end of their schedule will be especially tough when in a week and a half they will play Canandaigua, Penfield, Fayetteville-Manlius and then will finish their regular season hosting Thomas. Out of league games with Niskayuna, Jamesville-DeWitt, Brother Rice and F-M will give the Blue Devils an opportunity to test themselves for state competition, should they make it.
