Livonia-Avon Looks to Experienced Coach

Livonia-Avon 2021
Class C - GRALL League
Livonia-Avon Head Coach John Sciera was hired last season and has yet to coach his first game for the Lakers but he certainly knows the area and the Finger Lakes. Sciera started the Livonia program in 2002 and coached through the 2007 season before moving on to coach at the college level. He has a full schedule this year that starts with the Finger Lakes and adds Aquinas, Haverling from GRALL and a few Monroe County teams.
Although Coach Sciera has a large number of young and unproven players her has a good base of seniors to form a core. Austin Miller is "a defensive organizer" who is a team captain and "has exceptional on and off ball skills."
Trevor Allen is also a team captain and excellent all-around midfielder and face off specialist who won 127 faceoffs as a sophomore. Joining him at midfield is Brendan Meyer who plays well at both ends of the field. The third senior midfielder is the very athletic Roman Volpe who had 10g-3a as a sophomore.
Anchoring the defensive is senior Shaun Wetterings, "a big rangy defenseman who is 6=6 and 250 pounds".
With many on his team playing multiple sports, Coach Sciera is optimistic and excited to work with the team. "Many key players are playing football it will be tough to get off to a fast start. As a coaching staff we are still trying to learn about our team and what we do best. We have many younger players who are skilled but are yet to be tested in varsity competition. This team has a great upside and a lot of talent so it’s just a matter of putting it all together and using our depth to out hustle teams on the field."
