Looking Back

The "second season" started on Monday with three games in Class B and two more in Class D where both lower seeded teams advanced.

Thomas vs McQuaid As it happens in the out bracket round, upsets make for excitement and the 2018 edition saw three out of five games won by the lower seeded team. In Class B, Churchville-Chili avenged an earlier loss by beating Spencerport 7-5. Brighton and Canandaigua had no difficulty with their lower seeds by beating Brockport and Gates Chili. In Class D both out bracket games were won by the lower seeds as Waterloo defeated Marcus Whitman 9-7 and Bloomfield-Honeoye beat Mynderse 12-9.

Tuesday saw the quarter final round for Classes A and C and all the higher seeded teams won. Pittsford had a 6-3 win over Hilton, Penfield won their game with East United and Greece Storm had a 9-6 win over Rush-Henrietta. In Class C, Newark defeated Eastridge, Wayne ended Batavia's season and HF-L beat Livonia-Avon.

Wednesday saw more broken brackets but the final four were set for the semifinals on Saturday. In the Class D bracket, #5 Haverling defeated #4 Midlakes 14-9 and #6 Aquinas had upset #3 Pal-Mac 17-5. #2 Gananda beat #10 Bloomfield-Honeoye and #1 Penn Yan beat #9 Waterloo in the other quarters.

Victor vs Schroeder The semifinals were played in Class A and C on Friday. Top Seeded Fairport defeated fourth seeded Pittsford 8-5 in the first of the two double header Semi-Final matchups.  The Red Raiders took off in the second quarter and the Panthers couldn’t keep pace. In the second game second seeded Penfield defeated third seeded Greece Storm 13-5 to move on the finals. Sophomore John Reagan scored the game winning goal in the first overtime period to give second seeded Wayne the 11-10 win over third seeded HFL while Geneva scored nine goals in the first half and punched their ticket to the championship round as they defeated Newark 13-1.

Saturday. Top seeded Victor held fifth seeded Schroeder scoreless for 39 minutes spanning all four quarters to defeat the Warriors 7-4. Second seeded Webster Thomas came out and dominated in their 16-7 win over third seeded McQuaid Jesuit.  The Titans scored six unanswered in the first Penfield vs Greece
