Week in Review: Week 5

April 29, 2018 - There were rainy days but also a couple of days with sunshine last week . One hundred and eighty-one games have been played thus far. Webster Thomas (10-0) beat Penfield and Hilton to remain the only undefeated team at this point. Gananda (7-1) lost to the Greece Storm last week. Fourty-five (of seventy-three out of Section games scheduled) have been played. Section five teams have won thirty-one (69%). Victor, Thomas, HFL, Gananda and McQuaid Jesuit continue at the top of their leagues with undefeated league records.

Looking Back

Victr at Schroeder

Ovetime wins were earned by Aquinas in their 11-10 GRALL game with Livonia-Avon and by Midlakes in their 8-7 win over Mynderse.

On Monday, the Greece Storm ended the Gananda's undefeated record with an 11-8 win at home.

On Tuesday, Canandaigua broke three ties to beat Brighton 7-6. Irondequoit scored four goals in the third quarter to help them defeat Fairport 7-6. Thomas beat Penfield after a close first half.

Thursday was a busy night with fourteen games. Fairport beat Canandaigua, HF-L beat Spencerport by one goal. Victor beat Pittsford in a low-scoring 5-3 game. Brighton was a one-goal winner against Schroeder and Waterloo was a one-goal winner over the Pride.

There were fourteen games played on Saturday, mostly in the rain. Midlakes beat Mynderse in OT. Fairport beat Ithaca 17-5 and Canandaigua beat Orchard Park 6-6. Victor beat previously undefeated Corning 14-3.

Last week the Connors & Ferris Players of the Week were Quinn Simonson (Irondequoit) and Joe Camp (Wayne).

Looking Ahead

With almost fifty games scheduled for this week, there will certainly be some good ones. There is no doubt that there will be big crowds on hand at Webster Thomas to see the Titans play Victor. Among our other picks are:

Tuesday: Victor at Thomas, Schroeder at Pittsford, Penfield at Irondequoit and Fairport at Brighton.
Thursday: Victor at Fairport, Wayne at Geneva, Irondequoit at Schroeder and Newark at Mynderse.
