The Spartans kept the game close for three quarters before holding the Lightning scoreless for the final thirteen minutes. Greece started off strong, scoring four of the first five goals to take the early lead. Bryan Collister scored two of the goals for the Lightning. With 6:02 remaining in the second quarter, Greece led 4-1.

The Spartans scored the next three goals to tie the game early in the third quarter. Brian May, Joe Talarico and Kristian Sarkis scored for Gates-Chili.
