Saints Take Spartans 11-10

- Churchville-Chili only led their game for less than one minute but it was the final minute and they won the game 11-10. Gates Chili led or tied for the first 47:03 before Churchville-Chili scored the final goal of the contest to secure their win. The Spartans were looking for only their second wins over the Saints (Churchville-Chili lead 13-1 in last ten years).

Gates used a non-releasable illegal cross penalty to score their first two goals. Joseph O`Hare assisted Brett Jacobs on the first goal and scored unassisted on the second. O`Hare finished with 4g-1a for the Spartans. He continued on with the next two goals (both unassisted) to give Gates Chili a 4-0 lead over the Saints. Churchville-Chili`s first goal was scored in the second quarter (15:42 in the game) when Cameron Shipley assisted Joey Johnson. The Saints kept up the pressure coming out of a weather delay and tied the game at 4-4 with goals from Lucas Blaszyk and Jason Tebo (2). The Spartans scored the final goal of the opening half to take a 5-4 lead into halftime.

A man-up goal from Joe Talarico and an unassisted goal form O`Hare led to another three goal lead for the Spartans (7-4 with 8:51 remaining in the third quarter). Churchville-Chili added three goals before the conclusion of the quarter to tie the game after 3 quarters. Johnson scored the first and Ryan Cosgrove scored the latter two. The final Churchville-Chili goal was scored as time expired on the clock.

In the final quarter, Gates Chili continued to fight to keep their lead. Jacobs and Nicholas Ehmann scored the first two goals for the Spartans with assists from Richard Cato and Talarico. Two minutes later Churchville-Chili kept staying close with goals from Corey Yunker and Jacob Buck. Gates Chili's final goal of the game came two minutes later with Jacobs adding his third goal of the night with 4:48 remaining.

Churchville-Chili score another tying goal with 1:56 remaining off an unassisted goal from Tebo. With under one minute remaining Cosgrove scored the game winning goal unassisted with a drive to the cage. Face off midfielder Dan Bonafede won the final face off for the Saints and they held the ball to secure the win.

In the cage for Gates Chili, Michael Cavallaro finished with 13 saves (54%). He also led the team with 10 ground balls. Brett Kirkpatrick added four and Ehmann, O'Hare and Cato added three each. For the Saints, Matt Cobb finished with 6 saves. Bonafede led his team with 10 ground balls. Cosgrove (an attackman) added another six and Tebo (a midfielder) added five.
