Klan and Conners Make Top 30 Players for National Team
August 10, 2015 - Two Section Five players have been selected to join the last round of tryouts for the US National 19 and Under team that will compete in the FIL World Championships in British Columbia next July.
Almost 400 players applied for the spots. The original tryout group of 108 was cut to 50 and then to 30. Comprised of some of the best high school players in the country, the two players still in the running from Section Five are senior goalie Willie Klan (Penfield - Ohio State) and junior defenseman/LSM Jared Conners ( Pittsford - Virginia). The original group also included Brandon Barker (Pittsford - Ohio State) and Kevin Hill (Thomas - Penn State).
The four boys had another tryout from August 7th-9th at Johns Hopkins University (Maryland) winch culminated with a "Blue and White Scrimmage" on Sunday. The next step will be a training camp in November at Ohio State, where the final team (of 23) will be determined.
The team will attempt to win their 8th consecutive world title under Head Coach Nick Meyers (Ohio State), with assistants Patrick Myers (Penn), Chuck Ruebling (Delbarton School) and Peter Toner (Penn State). The games will be played in Coquitlam, British Colombia in July (7-16), 2016.
