Three Alums Lead at Albany

- AlbanyThree players from Section Five have been named Captains of the 2016 Albany Lacrosse team. Fairport alumnus, Blaze Riorden will begin his second year as a captain for the Great Danes. The senior goalie, who was recently selected in the MLL Collegiate draft to play for the Rochester Rattlers will start his last year at Albany with a record of 650 saves (%3%).

Joining Blaze will be senior midfielder John Maloney (Victor) who was named to the America East All-Academic Team for the second year. John, who will start his senior year with 56g-27a, was also selected in the MLL draft and will play this summer for the Chesapeake Bayhawks.

James Burdette (Penn Yan) is a two year starter for the Danes and will start his final year with 33gbs and 25 caused turnovers. He is the only defenseman to start in all a9 games last year and was also named to the America East All-Academic team in 2016.

Joining the three Section Five alums is second year captain Derrick Eccles (Corcoran, Section III) who, as a red shirt midfielder, has played 44 games and will start this season with 23g-12a and 55gbs.

The four captains will lead the team of 48 that currently includes senior midfielder Tyler Aycock (Pittsford), sophomore defenseman Joe Eddinger (Canandaigua), red shirt junior attackman Mitch Rupp (Victor) and junior face off specialist Russell Connor (Penfield). The Great Danes were recently named 1st in the America East preseason poll and 12th in the USILA Coaches poll.
