
Penn Yan Earns Play-In Victory Over Akron
June 4, 2025 - Penn Yan secured a 19-8 win over Akron in the Class D NYS play-in game at Canandaigua, advancing to the quarterfinal round against Marcellus. Penn Yan took control early, scoring four times in the first quarter before adding six more in the second. Akron managed two early goals from Thunder Hallett but trailed 10-3 at halftime. The third quarter saw Penn Yan extend their lead further, fueled by Braden Fingar's five-goal effort and Teagan Fingar’s four goals and three assists. Tukker Fisher contributed three goals and two assists, while Mike Gigliotti added three goals.
Akron fought to stay in the game, with Charles Rebmann III leading his team with three goals and an assist. Elden Ground and Hallett each netted two goals, and Brodie Hill recorded a goal and two assists. Despite their efforts, Akron couldn't match Penn Yan’s offensive depth. Goalie Will Thompson played 42 minutes for Penn Yan, stopping eight shots and finishing with a 57% save percentage.
This win marked coach Brian Hobart’s 325th career victory at Penn Yan. Freshman midfielder Greyson Hathway recorded his 300th faceoff win, securing 23 out of 29 attempts.
